Electric shavers are a joke to me, they take just as long as a good safety razor and don't provide nearly as good a shave.

I shave every other day, usually, or I'll shave on the off day if I have a date.

I bought this, and it actually does a decent job:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001AJ6YS2

It does take almost as long as a regular shave, though. I thought it would be faster, but it just isn't. The time savings for me is when I have to shave and my wife is in our (only) bathroom getting ready. We have a tiny house with a tiny bathroom with one sink and no real counter space other than a small vanity. The mirror is also there. If that happens, I can grab the electric razor and shave in another room.

I can go a while w/o shaving and people wont really notice. I find the best thing for me to do is just run a razor over my face in the shower. No shaving cream or anything. If I do that once a day it keeps my face very smooth.

I'm in the air force so I have to, but I always have a pretty bad shadow so it never looks like I shave even if I spend 30 minutes in a hot shower making it feel smooth my hair shows through from under my skin : (

I just leave stubble, trim down w/o guard when the stubble grows out past about 1mm.

Of course, I only have facial hair on my chin and lip. The few stubbles I have on my cheeks I shave down with a blade because they annoy me.

if my shirt isn't covered in grease stains, I'm the best-dressed guy in my office.

I generally let my beard grow until it starts to annoy me, shave it all off, and then start again. usually takes about 3 weeks until my mustache is long enough to impact eating.

So ATOT, how many of you actually try and keep your face looking clean-shaven for work? I am torn about whether to just let stubble grow for a few days before shaving (as I normally would), or going clean-shaven in order to appear more "professional".

Note that this thread is intended more for white-collar financial/legal people who work in an office environment.

I work in a finance firm with M-T business dress, and I say either shave regularly, or let your beard grow out a bit and use an electric razor to keep it from getting too wild. Going to work with 2 days of stubble like Don Johnson from Miami Vice just looks unkempt IMHO. Keeping a relatively closely trimmed beard means I only have to touch up every other week or so to look decent, which is definitely helpful since I have a newborn baby at home and can use the extra 5 minutes or so sleep in the morning I'd otherwise use shaving.

I just got my B.Sc.(EE) and I work at a consulting engineering firm. I shave monday-wednesday-friday. I can't stand going more than one day without shaving.

Interesting. The consensus seems to be some minimal amount of stubble, or a full beard.

That then begs the question: what is one to do if they want to grow a beard? For some period you would look like the office bum until the beard comes into full force.

You do it during the playoffs.

I am a hairy bastard, but I go with the clean look and am a lawyer, so I shave every work day.

The only exception was when I went camping for four days without shaving. I did not shave the next day for work, just to freak people out.

My current job is a lot more forgiving when it comes to dress code -- I overdress all the time because my last job was a lot more strict.

I still like staying clean shaven though. I wet shave three directions (with, perpendicular, against the grain) using a straight razor (with) and a double edged safety (other two directions). Smoothest feeling skin I have on my body. I do get a better shave if I go every other day, but I think I look goofy as hell as I really only get thick hair above my lip and on my chin/neck. It tends to give me that "I just hit puberty" look :/

I shave twice a week. Wife likes it better that way. People in the office don't care.

I shave every 2-3 days. If I have something important I will shave the morning of, but otherwise my face gets irritated if I shave every day.

I shave every second day. I can't pull off growing a beard, but if I could I would totally grow this.

I started shaving 2-3 times a week. If my stubble is bothering anybody, their priorities need to be put in order.

I don't have a clean shaven face ever, but I only shave the non-beard parts a couple times a week at best. I wait until it looks kind of scruffy. Then again I work in a steel mill where everybody wears the same thing, and people are generally filthy outside of HR and finance folk. Work isn't really the reason to clean up, it's the personal life where it's important.

Unless that person's name is on the door and/or that person signs the checks, of course.

i shave every day but i use a dull blade. It never really looks slick, but it doesnt look like i am homeless either. I mostly just try to avoid having a bloody face.
