I don't know how many people this will apply to, but Sherwin Williams paints are currently on sale for about 15% off. However, some employees at my local Sherwin-Williams told me their paints will be 25% off this coming labor day weekend. I think their painting supplies will also be on sale.

Their website mentions "Stop in and save during the Labor Day Sale, August 31st - September 4th." but doesn't mention the extent of the discount.

drop worthless williams, and just go to home depot, lowes or menards and get the basic glidden, pittsburgh, or even see if your Local MAB has paint around $60 a five gallon. All paints that are higher price are a waist of money. You always need to repaint in 5-10 years anyway.

Ohh side note, Pulti builders uses a "Special" version of Sherwin williams and every house they have painted in the chicago area cracks and peels as soon as it drys. National Reps cannot figure it out, and are having to pay $20,000 each unit to repaint. So they will be passing the buck onto you soon...

It's too bad that you don't know as much about paint as you do about threadcrapping. According to independent consumer testing organizations and many painting pros, higher-grade coatings are not "a waist of money" (even disregarding the "contractor grade" products used by Pulte and other builders who probably only care if the paint lasts long enough to sell the house). The common conclusion is that in paint you usually get what you pay for - what a surprise. But I'm sure that the $12/gal. product will be fine for your house.

Even for those who prefer other brands for standard paints, the 25% sale is great for buying some of SW's highly-regarded specialty products like radiant barrier or no-VOC paints - thanks OP.

I can't speak for Sherwin Williams interior paint, but their exterior paints are very good. We just redid our house and it looks great and it is well-sealed. We talked to numerous painting pros and they all love Sherwin Williams.

On a side note, my money belt gives me a "waist of money." Don't taunt money belt.

I agree that you need good paint. I always use Behr Premium for my house. It's probably the best consumer grade premium paint on the market. Of course that's just personal opinion.

BUT, Sherwin-Williams is complete and utter junk. I think the majority of people know this.

FYI: If you have access to Consumer Reports - SW placed last in Flat, Low-Luster and Semi Gloss.

Opinions are like belly buttons...

And Consumer Reports is worthless.

Why are you all crapping on his post? If you don't have a contractor account, which most don't, this is a good deal.

Sherwin Williams Superpaint (high titanium diox content) is very durable, and so far the only paint that can actually do a rich color in one coat. I went from offwhite to dark blue in one coat, did my HT in midgray, one coat.

I have tried Martha Stewart (3 coats still not good), American Heritage (or traditions...the top rated by consumer reports) and neither even come close to coverage.

Thank god I actually tried a number myself before falling into the trap they are all the same. My house is now covered in Hardiplank siding with 25 year superpaint, and 4 of my rooms are superpaint...the only paint I will touch from now on.

I took convincing as well as it is almost $30 a gallon not on sale...but two other people I talked to had similar stories, which made me finally try it. $12 isn''t cheaper after 3 coats and a shitload of time

well said!!! I will only ever buy Sherwin Willaims Paint anymore. It applies soo much easier than Bear or or pittsburg. Who thumbs up for SW superpaint. I'd much rather pay 28 bucks a gallon for SW superpaint anyday and use one coat than 15 bucks of crap and use two

The last time I went to buy paint at Menards I got 5 gallons of one paint color... BUT THEY WERE ALL DIFFERENT SHADES! At the sametime, we bought 1 gallon of yellow, painted a room, needed another quart... THE NEXT QUART DID NOT MATCH EITHER.

I've heard good things about the duration line. They had a demo booth in the store where you can mark up a duration painted surface with felt marker and see how easy it washes off. It's pricey, but with the labor day discount, it should "only" be about $30/gallon.

Listen guys I deal with this stuff everyday in rental houses and in new homes I have used everything from 8 dollar a gallon walmart paint to $35 duration paint. There is not a quality gain that is noticeble to average home owners. My father is a 30 year veteran in painting and getting ready to retire from the local University. You do waste money on high grades of paint, unless you are going to redue a Heritige home or want a paint that will last over 20 years.

If you use consumer reports to judge paint, then boo on you. That is like reading newegg.com posts reviews and saying that they are quality reviews. Go ahead all that want to spend two times what is really needed when you can get a good paint for around $60 to at most $70 for a five gallon.

You that post of my lies, what kind of work do you do???

SW duration line is excellent. Right up there with Benjamin Moore for the best.

If I was painting my house and wanted the best I wouldn't hesitate to use SW Duration. SW has gotten real stingy with discounts on Duration line even to contractors so any sale on this product is good for the general public that wants the best.

Every pro painter in Florida I've ever called to get a quote from always uses SW SuperPaint. It certainly has held up better on my house than the last cheapo paint that the previous owner had used. For interior flat paints I don't think it makes a big difference, but when the sun is baking it all day I think the good stuff makes a real difference.

On a side note you can get 20% off SW all the time by simply opening an account. This sale is off of their retail sales, which is horribly overpriced. You can usually get them to give you much better pricing, usually matching what you would pay for Home Depot or Lowes premium paint.

I went back to get some more color samples and confirm the sale. Here's the details.

25% off all paints EXCEPT for the Duration line for which there is only a 15% off discount.

Sale starts tomorrow (Thursday) and ends after Labor Day.

And, why, pray tell, is consumers reports worthless?

BTW-they like the Behr premium plus at Home Depot.

I am a painting contractor. The ONLY paint I use is Sherwin Williams. Those of you that think you can get the same quality paint job out of a $12 gallon of paint as you can from Sherwin Williams Super paint are sadly mistaken. $12 gallon paint WILL NOT cover nearly as well as Super paint. And its a "waste" of money for the higher price paints?? LOL please. If you have kids get the Duration home interior paint. Hands down the most washable paint on the market. I do however think that the exterior Duration is all hype. It does not cover like it should.

The "cashmere" interior paint line is a great paint. The paint levls out alot more that other latex paints which will give you a smother finish.

Oh and for the love of god .... DO NOT waste you money on Glidden paints ... OMG. If you want really bad paint that much ... go buy some paint at wal-mart and piss in it and you will still have a better paint than Glidden.
