Run prime95 version 23.3 or newer, that will automatically stress all four cores.

Edit: Oops, I meant 25.3.

Hmm, i have 24.14, the latest.

It does utilize all four cores, but not anywhere close to 100% per core.
And yes, i'm using small FFTs.

Two instances of Orthos + affinities set (two cores per instance) does stress the cores 100%.

I tried something a tad hasty...bumped FSB to 300 w/o touching anything else, & that seems to be alright

Try OCCT - it will stress all four cores nicely - I have grown to prefer it to Prime95. My version is 25.5 and all four cores are fully loaded.

I have OCCT too...don't like it as much since i find it harder to isolate what's holding the OC back when running it, but i'll try it out too.

I didn't realize there were newer beta Prime95s listed in the forums, thanx Virtual Larry.

I got the 64-bit P95 25.5 one & it stresses all four cores very nicely, w/o having to mess with mutiple instances & affinities.

There's a square imprint/scratch mark on that heatspreader . Do they put heatsinks on and test them, before packing and selling them?

of course, how else would you know if the chip works before boxing it and selling it

Well I assumed they did the testing before buffing up the heatspreader to a nice shine and engraving the codes onto it .

Looks like i won't be hitting a lofty 3.6 Ghz like you JAG87

Already needed to bump vcore up to get to 3350 MHz.

Thats a nice 24/7 overclock, your only up to 1.34v after vdroop and your temps look good.
You should be able to the hit 3.6ghz with 1.4v after vdroop and load temps around 65-68c, which would probably run for years but no reason to keep it there 24/7

Yeah vdrop & vdroop are horrible with this mobo.

I'm presently testing 10x345 @ 1.45V (bios) which results as 1.36V under load.

15 mins of small ffts so far, which is better than the BSOD i got at 1.425 V bios (1.34V load).

Temps are around 58-64C under small ffts, which doesn't bother me at all.
It states 71C as max for this CPU, which gives me a bit more to work with if i want to try to stay under that threshold.

Believe it or not, i actually get better temps with this quad at idle stock than i did with my previous E6600 :Q
My E6600 was very concave, so even after lapping the TR 120 eX, i still had very cozy temps regardless of how low i went w/ vcore.
I didn't actually look at the heatspreader on this Q6700, but it's obviously a hell of a lot flatter, as the temps i'm getting are actually around the same as my E6600

Well, I know its late, but I have to put my 2 cents in again.... Gigabyte-DQ6, NO vdroop..... I got 3320 out of my B3 stepping with only 1.4 vcore.

You have so many quads :Q

The P5B Deluxe has bad vdrop & vdroop with all the CPUs out there...doesn't really hurt anything per say, just means i have to set it way higher in the bios to get what i actually want...& then even higher to accomodate idle to load vdroop...

Passed over an hour of P95 @ 10x345 1.45V bios/1.36V load now, gonna reboot to try a little higher.

Eh no go @ 3.55 GHz w/ 1.4875V (aka 1.39V load)

Seems okay w/ that @ 3.5 GHz though...don't think i'll be going much higher in vcore.

Stupid vdroop is 1.44V idle to 1.39V load

Why Q6700 for so much more $ over Q6600?

I have my Q6600 @ 3.4ghz at 1.36875 in the BIOS and CPU-Z reports 1.28V (seems way off).

For temperatures use Core Temp 0.94

CoreTemp doesn't work unless i disable driver signing upon bootup every single time (Vista x64 user), so i use Everest Ultimate, since it reports the exact same temps anyway.

As for why the Q6700 over the Q6600, i'm surprised it took this many posts for someone to bring that up!

I was fortunate enough to get in on the Retail Edge bundle, so i got this Q6700 + some other goodies for around the same price total as a Q6600 would cost me

Seems like you are doing very well. Congratulations on the new chip!

3.5 ghz is nothing to sneeze at.

All going well, it looks like 3550 MHz + DDR2-888 5-5-4-15 will be my 24/7 settings.

It was actually running 3600 MHz quite nicely for Prime 95 & then a bunch of UT3 last night, but it decided to BSOD while running P95 overnight, so i decided to drop down a notch in vcore & down to 3550 MHz for 24/7.

This Mushkin 2x2 GB kit is finicky for OCing though...subtimings make a huge difference in stability...anything but retardedly loose & it doesn't OC at all barely.

3550 MHz + DDR2-888 5-5-4-15

So are suggesting that a 5-5-5-12 (Patriot deal @frys for $90 + $7SH) would likely run better than a 5-4-4-15 (OCZ deal @frys $80 AR of 30).

What the hell, to complete the ram deals that I am contemplating for my 6700 is a Corsair (@frys $90 AR of 40)

BTW I know Yoxxy said "3.5GHz is nothing to sneeze at" but I am absolutely amazed. Congratz.
I can't wait.

Oh anyone who works at an approved store especially BestBuy, please PM me. Thanx

Yes but it won't tell you if errors are occuring until after the data is crunched.

You don't need to with P95 v25.3a ,it automatically loads all 4 cores:thumbsup:

Nice deal!
Excellent o/c btw ,my Q6600 is at 3GHz ,I could go much higher on vcore but the cooler can't handle it ,time for an upgrade I think!

i've been using an older version of p95 (non orthos), i just make 4 directories with 4 copies, set the affinity to each core, and let'r rip @ 100% everytime
