Looking at selling a $300 processor to someone in B.C. Canada. Looks like I'll be shipping it USPS. The buyer wants me to set the value at a low value (50ish?) and mark it as a review item or gift I guess. Is that legal? Going to sit a month in customs?

What exactly is the deal with shipping to Canada and all the fees, etc? The more I try and find info the more confused I get.

Sorry I've never shipped anything outside the U.S. before.

they want you to commit mail fraud?
are they going to visit you in FPMITAP ?

many people in BC have post boxes across the boarder, see if the dude has a friend with a US PO box

He wants you to write a small value to avoid getting charged tax by customs... it's not exactly legal, but most people who ship to Canada does this...

Just let him know that if you do that, you can only insure it for $50, so if it gets lost, all he'll be able to claim would be $50, not $300. I would also send USPS Global Express Mail, so he'll have it in about 5 days at the most whereas with AirMail Parcel it could take as long as a month. My own experience due to MANY shipments abroad, I'd heed it if I were you

yeah he said to insure it for that amount, too. I just want to make sure all parties are happy with all of this...

I've had every item shipped here have its value declared under $50 and marked as a gift...

from my $350 Zen Vision:M to $100 Etymotic ER-6is

I'm not losing any sleep over the Federal Government losing out on my $40 in customs charges (and if they do find out, the buyer will have to pay the extra in customs - you, the seller are completely off the hook anyways)
