Shockingly GOOD movies....

Someone said in the Shockingly BAD movie thread that there should be a thread like this one so I created it!!!

Running Scared. Paul Walker in a good movie?! Yeah this movie wasn't amazing but it was definitely a good rental movie that I didn't regret watching. If you're looking for good entertainment action and some what of a descent plot, you should watch it. A friend told me to watch it and I checked it out and was pleasantly surprised.

Running Scared. Paul Walker sucked, the movie was still good though or at least very okay.

Biggest surprise for me lately was "A scanner darkly". I found myself enjoying it greatly.

But with Running Scared didn't you think it was just going to blow so hard you were going to have to punch the person who told you to see it? Thats why its shockingly good but not great IMO.

The Constant Gardener was surprisingly good, and much less grim than I was expecting.

Sadly, The Double Life of Veronique was for me only OK, not shockingly good like Kieslowski's Three Colors trilogy (Blue, White, Red).

I can't think of any movies offhand that I expected to suck but turned out to be really really good. Well, nothing recent that is. I expcted the original Matrix to suck and was very plesantly surprised.

I'd definitely second that.

Just watched Kung Fu Hustle - the first time around I was too busy laughing, but I was amazed at how effective the use of audio effects were in the movie.

I doubt more than a few poeple would agree, but I think I <3 Huckabees was the most hilarious movie I've seen in a while.

I'd like to add Kung Fu Hustle to the list. I thought it was going to be really bad, but it turned out to be one of the better films i've seen in recent years.

I won't say 'shockingly' but World Trade Center turned out to be quite the opposite of what I was expecting. In a good way too.

I just came back from watching that; my friends didn't like it, but I did.

Oh, and my vote is for The Illusionist

I saw The Godfather a few years ago and loved it ever since. :thumbsup: I also loved Animal House. Oh, for new movies... KKBB was hilarious! :laugh:

Bad Boys 2. A lot of critics hated it. Though it was pretty good at the movies or on a big screen with surround sound. It's one of those movies considered to be good as "what-it-is".

Silent Hill. Lets face it, the movie did not make any sense but neither did the video game if you didn't read all the FAQ's and plot guides. It offered a lot of gore and satanic visuals, something missed in todays horror flicks.
