You people are insane. Shoes stay on indoors or out. What kind of crap are you people trekking through that you manage to accumulate all this dirt and filth on your shoes? I wear my sneakers around outside all day, and when i come home its not as if ive been walking through a garbage dump... ive been walking on pavement.

Honestly, i think a lot of you might have mild OCD.

Obviously my house is a LOT cleaner than yours. You'd be surprised if you used a swiffer wipe to find out how much dirt comes in with your shoes...

Do you live with your SO though? Men are born not to care that much about being clean. Read, spotless vs. clean.

Eh, i dunno about that. I clean pretty regularly, and i've also got this AMAZING invention by my door. It's this weird little bristled pad called a "doormat." You should totally try and look them up on google, they're the latest thing! All you have to do is rub your feet back and forth on them when you walk in and all the dirt on your shoes comes right off!

Those who were shoes inside. Do you put the on when you wake up or just leave them on after coming back inside?

Usually I will walk around for a while with them on, do whatever. At some point, I realize it is more comfortable with them off and I take them off. Sometimes I don't take them off until I go to bed.

Shoes off. I always take them off at other people's houses too without even thinking about it. It has kept our carpet much much cleaner not to wear shoes in the house.

Yeah as long as you wear socks. If you go barefoot the oils from the soles of your feet soil the carpet. As a Property Manager I noticed that the carpet in our rentals to FOB Asians and Indians who traditionally went barefoot were always nastier than the carpets rented to those who wore shoes inside.

Do people from those cultures not wash their feet everyday?

Since my wife and I both hate housework, shoes/workboots come off, it reduces the need to vacuum to 1x per week. Otherwise the hardwood floors get gritty.

Couldn't tell you but your skin emits oils constantly plus your feet sweat more than most parts of your body.

I just can't see someone leaving a carpet more dirty walking around barefoot then if they wore shoes if they washed their feet everyday.

Yeah I wouldn't have thought that either if I hadn't of noticed it. But if you think about it, oil, whether from shoes or from the human body, does tend to dirty a carpet more than just your everyday dust and grim. If you wear socks or indoor slippers like the Japanese do then your carpets will be cleaner than those who go barefoot or wear shoes indoor.

Plus, oil you can't vacuum up, you have to actually clean. With dirt or small articles from outside you can just get with the vacuum.

Yes, and that doesn't get rid of everything. A lot of dirt is still on your shoe and obviously a house will be dirtier if you let shoes in than if you don't. That's a fact.

Like I said, you would be surprised how dirty a kitchen floor can get in 2 days using a Swiffer wipe EVEN AFTER you vaccum and pick up the big stuff you drop.

No, I'm not the cleanest guy in the world when it comes to maintaining a clean apartment, but having a semi-OCD mom who tells me to Swiffer everyday, I've learned to try that a few times, and yes, there is a buttload of dust that comes into any house.

Finally, everyone who's complaining about oil, it's the same oil you have over your body. Would you rather sit down on a carpet knowing that it's your own oil or oil that is at least from a body than to sit down on dirt and crap that you know could be from a puddle two blocks away?

[sorry wrong thread]

one of my best friends is black. I have tendencies like anyone to have biases that could be percieved as racist but my intentions are not that. I think I'm pretty good about opening up to everyone.

I don't care who you are, your shoes come off at the front door. We even make the Sears appliance repairman remove his shoes...

"Mahalo for taking off slippahs at door, but no take mo bettah ones when you leave!"

I refuse to take my shoes off unless they are covered in mud or the likes. I hate not having shoes on.

However, I do not wear boots or other deep treaded shoes in the house that tend to carry large amounts of dirt.

For all those that don't take their shoes off, think about the last time you used a public restroom. If you're a guy then 90% of those restrooms have puddles of piss on the floor and thats what you bring back to your house.

Shoes off. But I don't ask the people who'll do work at my place to take off their boots. 1. It's only going to be a one-time thing. 2. It could annoy/piss them off and I need them to be in the best of moods. 3. It's dangerous. I don't need them dropping something heavy/sharp on their exposed feet.
