shoot, hot p4 temps!

yo,
my northwood 1.8A idle temperatures are 47 degrees celsius, with default HSF and default thermal paste. the motherboard temperatures are at 23C. you guys have any suggestions of how to decrease the temperatures, cause they're really annoying, since at max load the temperatures go up as high as 60 degrees celsius, and the processor becomes extremely slow. =(

Dude, you got something jacked up. This is what I did, scrape that black crap off the bottom of the heatsink and make sure there is none of that black residue left. Now get some ArticSilver3 and apply it instead of that generic stuff. You should be idling at about ~28-35C with a max of ~50 (but you should be lower than that).

And make sure you HSF fan is plugged in.

MB Temperature: 22 C
CPU Fan: 3229
+12V: 12.038
+5V: 5.08

Here's a curious thing:

Go into your BIOS and tell me what the CPU temp is there. Run SiSoft Sandra and see what it says the CPU temp is. Then run Motherboard Monitor and see what it says.

For me, Asus PC probe tells me my CPU temp is around 45c

My BIOS, Mobo Monitor and Sandra tell me it's 27c

Who's right?

Here is what I think: Asus's mobo CPU temp sensor reads low because it's under the CPU and not on the die (this low number is what you see in your BIOS, Sandra, and MBM), so PC Probe tries to compensate by adding a set number to the readings from the sensor under the CPU. I think what you see in PC probe is an artificially inflated number, and not a real reading.

35 C with speed fan
35 C with MB monitor 5
and the bios reports 37 C


I think that probe has a lower limit of 40 C

Yes, it does for the 845 boards. I forgot.

My experience is with a P4T-E.

looks to me like an overclocked 1.6A, as the multiplier is 16..... shouldnt your CPU be at 18x100 and not 16x113????

Ya dude, you DEFINITELY have that thing overclocked if what you posted is accurate. A P4 1.8AGHz CPU runs at 18x100 (400MHz system bus). But still, the Vcore is still at 1.5v, so your temps are still high.

thats odd, in the BIOS it says it has a front side bus of 100, with a multiplier of 18, but wcpuid shows something else..
