I think White Castle might have it TM'd? Also, at least here in STL, sliders refer to something VEEERY different. Though it's not mentioned in the article, 'slinger' and 'slider' are used more or less interchangeably.

Idiots would drag refrigerators, stoves, and all kinds of junk up there to blast away at..At one time, someone dug in a large piece of heavy wall pipe. Plink it with a .22, and you'd hear a little "tink." Hit it with a round from a 30.06, and you'd get a small "ponk," but one day, a fellow was there with a Jeep-mounted.50 Browning M2, (modified so it was only single shot) and when he'd launch a round..."C-L-A-N-G!!" it went...

The BLM closed the Red Hills to recreational shooting/target practice and Off-road vehicles in 1991 because of stupid people.

There have been quite a few riding and shooting areas closed because people can't be bothered to police up after themselves.

We've got a fairly nice shooting area down here that is actually a county owned and operated park. They've got a range master and like 2 or 3 other people walking around so it is obviously monitored well. Still pretty cool to go to a relatively new county park that cost tax payers somewhere in the area of 10 million
