I don't condone violence or any kind of vigilante/extralegal justice, but I think you should consider what you're defending. These fascist clowns are intentionally spreading fear and hate and division just for money and notoriety. They're trolling for this. Surely you see that?

Orwell had something to say about this-

"If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear"

That seems to imply not being shot for it. "Asking for it"- Well so was every public figure killed in the eyes of someone. Then there were women who had that skirt showing just a bit too much...

Sorry Vic, but there is no justification or mitigation. I've heard of this Milo guy and I know he's unpopular in some circles, but someone agreed with your description of him and pulled the trigger. Obviously you too have a right to express your sentiments in words and I know you would have done him no harm, but the statement is sort of "he's a nice guy- but". We disregard everything before the "but"

Man got shot by some anti free speech people and there is no 'but' IMO. Who he was? I don't really want or need to know.

Sadly, this is a consequence of preaching fear, hate and intolerance. Fear, hate and intolerance follow you wherever you go.

That is what I believed. If I erred then of course I suck and disregard my points
Someone at a Milo event got shot. We still don't know why. I don't condone such violence and I hope that perpetrator is caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. However, I hold Milo partially responsible because of the hateful rhetoric that he is recklessly spreading. The fascist prick has his right to free speech, but speech has consequences. Going from city to city and turning the residents against each other with divisive and inflammatory bullshit is the political equivalent of yelling fire in a crowded theater. And worse still because he is doing this intentionally, encouraging and instigating conflict, as each act of violence sparked by his words only increases his notoriety (and paychecks, no doubt). He is not a victim.

No he is obviously not the victim if he wasn't harmed, and I do see his participation as being a motive. Yet I stand by Orwell. No matter the provocation people have a right to speak unpopular things in our society without fear, for any legally expressed ideas however how offensive we find them. We're not far apart really, perhaps not at all, but for me the major concern is that harm was done because someone could not control themselves. That does not excuse those who speak irresponsibly simply because they can.

I think we're in agreement. My opinion is just that if Milo goes around telling people to fight each other (which he does), then he and his supporters shouldn't feign surprise when people actually start fighting each other.

"
When Yiannopoulous received word of the shooting, he left the stage for several minutes. But when he returned, he announced that he would not end the show until he received news of a fatality.

“We don’t really have a protocol for this. I don’t know if it is a fatality or not. Until I do know that, my suggestion is that the show should go on,” he told the audience.

“If I stopped my event now we are sending a clear message to these people that they can stop our events by killing people. I’m not prepared to do that.”"

Going down the road where you can use violence against people you disagree with, no matter how disagreeable their opinion is a very dangerous and slippery road to go down.

People may be provoked and that is their right as humans in our society. I think we pretty much agree here that once it goes beyond lawful response, especially those with potentially deadly consequences that is unacceptable, to say the least. Consequences need to result.

A better angle is available now, it was apparently a Trump supporter shooting after being pushed a bit by ANTIFA types.

https://vid.me/V3JL (nothing too graphic I don't think but it still shows a shooting so be forewarned)

Hard to tell if he was actually being attacked though. Prior to the shooting, it did look like ANTIFA attacked another person, then the Asian guy went over and the mob seemed to kind of bump into him/shove him more than directly attack him. One guy seemed to take a swing and then a few people grabbed him, but it looked like one of the guys grabbing him had a red MAGA cap, and was probably just trying to hold him back. Since these leftist types have a habit of assaulting people and then lying about being the ones assaulted, hopefully there will be even better video evidence in the future.

Even if offered purely in jest, I find this statement repulsive.

What was your opinion on the Richard Spencer thread?

How is this troll behavior? There have been several recent incidents of leftist thugs committing vandalism and assault, and we just had a thread where a good portion of the forum is apparently supportive. I don't believe in unprovoked violence, which is why I hope it was a leftist (almost always the instigators) that was shot. I should remind you that the form of radical leftism that ANTIFA promotes is just as morally bankrupt as Nazism.

Sure is quiet in this thread. I guess mob violence is only cool when it's against people you don't agree with.

Keep in mind people who invite professional trolls are basically hoping for this sort of thing, and thus not exactly unexpected you & peers always fall for it.

I'm sure the other conservatives will be along shortly to point out the Real angry folks here.

I believe anyone is entitled to express an opinion without being assaulted. I don't see that as a defense of their opinions. You apparently do.

If they are trolling just for money and notoriety, that makes them even less of a threat in my books. Why give them attention? (Answer: the public narrative benefits from unwitting idiots to smear opponents, just see David Duke paraded around in the news.)

The video available shows the crowd getting excitable some 20-30 seconds before the gunshots. If this was a Trump supporter subjected to unprovoked violence by ANTIFA, I am 100% serious in hoping that the person shot was an ANTIFA member, and that the shooter has his right to self-defense recognized.

EDIT: Here's a video of peaceful liberal protestors at the scene making their voices heard

Still trolling I see.

Self-defense is serious business. There's little I'm more against than mob violence.

Delusional. getting into the mix with people and exchanging words with them in the hopes they touch you so you can pull your gun isnt self defense.

CCW holders have a responsibility to not put themselves in these types of situations. With great power comes great responsibility...

Looks like this guy just wanted to kill liberals.
