In any case, I've met with the regional management at Target, I've toured the farthest regions of several stores and even if all things were equal, the working environment (lighting, cleanliness, standards for product display, etc.) are far and away better than any Walmart store I've even been too, even our brand new Super Center that opened up here last summer when it was brand new. I know for a fact that Target pays their employees more on average and that their hours are managed better as well (my wife does the scheduling for her employees and is more than accomodating to individual needs and desires). I just can't fathom any area in particular that I would point to and say, "Walmart is better than Target" where employees are concerned.
Exactly my thoughts! So Target has less items from China than Walmart?
That sir is a false statement.Sure Walmart offers low prices initially but once they've gotten into an area and ran everyone else out of business they jack up their prices and are no cheaper than anyone else.
Exactly. Walmart is the largest retailer so obviously bad things are going to happen more often and the media blows it all out of proportion. It's not rocket science figuring this stuff out.Wrong! My wife is in retail management and she can attest that Target is no better than Walmart in treating their staff.
Walmart also offers insurance to all employees.Yes they also provide health insurance to all employees and pay more than the average wage for retail clerks.
I don't have proof but I'm pretty sure walmart actually pays better than Target.pay more than the average wage for retail clerks.
Pretty much all true. Raises are harder to get now with the new system they started using for pay increases. It's pretty much impossible to get a raise other than your yearly raise.Walmart offers health insurance to all full time employees (if youve worked at a walmart for longer than a month there is ALWAYS a full time position open you can put in for), they also offer dental and life insurance, stock options, store profit sharing, rewards for accident free days, employee gift incentive programs, and competitions and contests. Walmart also gives regular raises based on performance.
Wrong, how come I almost always work overtime? After Christmas I had a 65 hour week and it had nothing to do with Christmas.overtime is not allowed at walmart
Allowing overtime is generally at the store manager's discretion, although some weeks they get orders from higher up not to allow overtime that week. Yes, you can work overtime at Wal-Mart, but usually only on weeks they expect huge sales.Originally posted by: Acanthus
I highly doubt the accomodations for employees, but the hours is likely true, overtime is not allowed at walmart.

I also talked to one old lady (in her late 60s, if I had to guess her age) at Wal-Mart who I felt pretty sorry for at the time. She said the store was short-staffed, and she was on her 6th scheduled day in a row, and had 4 more go, and what made me feel sorry for her was that she said she was exhausted from working there so much. That store really should plan their scheduling better, and be more sensitive to their semi-retired part-timers, or they'll suddenly become short-timers (ie, they'll quit).

I would like to shop at target instead of Wal-Mart, but target is a much farther, more traffic congested drive. I can go to my mom's and start some laundry, go to Wal-Mart, go back and do another load, then go to publix, pick up laundry and go home in 3 hours.

I make a point NEVER to shop at Walmart. Call me an isolationist, but a retail chain which strongarms it's suppliers to obtain goods from China is not helping our economy. I vote with my dollar...

Yes they also provide health insurance to all employees and pay more than the average wage for retail clerks.
I shop at walmart because It is three blocks from the house and my wife works there so I get 10% off
I think you may have misunderstood my question because your answer makes no sense.

You dont work at a walmart then, you work at a DC.
Or you change managers a lot, since they get written up any time an employee under them gets overtime.

There is no corporate policy against overtime, most of the time in fact it is encoraged. And as far as management getting written up for it
