Shopping for new 500w or greater...what else besides seasonic/corsair/etc

I am looking to buy a 500w or greater psu that will be able to handle future quad cores and gpu's such as the 9800gtx or the ati r700 and nvidia g200's.

My requirements:

-2 pci-e connectors so that I can power cards like the 9800gx2 or incase other single cards are power hungry and require two connectors in the future

-atleast 500w

-cheaper is better lol. Don't want to shell out $150 on a psu

Everyone seems to recommend the corsair hx and vx series. Is there any other good brands, any particular models?

corsair, CWT, Seasonic, thermaltake. For the sake of future compatibilly and upgrading i think 500W is a little on the low side. I personally would go 750+. Looking at your budget..how about corsair 520 or 620?

If you really want a decent 750W for under $150

Look into the Coolermaster Real Power Pro 750 Watt.

Enermax Modu82+/Pro82+ 525W would be my recommendation. Modu is modular and Pro is not obviously, otherwise they are the same. Silentpcreview tested the 625W model and it was the most quiet PSU they'd ever tested. It (525W) actually comes with 3 PCIe connectors and 6 SATA and 6 molex connectors. The modular is going for $170 and the nonmodular for $160 at newegg, so it just might be out of your budget, but it's good.

We just picked up one of those from compusa for $120 to replace my last enermax liberty 620 before it went pop. Stable power and quiet and hopefully it will hold up over time.

considering it looks like the Liberty reincarnated I would wait about a year before I touched it, let other early adopters be their Guinea Pigs

The 525W Pro model (non modular) can be had for $119.99 + 9 shipping at Clubit.com. Debating on getting one myself. I think I'll wait until I build my new PC and then see how loud my old PC is once it's moved to the bedroom If it's loud (i.e. I can hear it), it's going to get a new power supply.

I bought a Corsair TX650 non-modular psu. So far it has been great. Came REALLY well packaged and you can just tell it is true quality

I just bought the Decathlon 650 from Silverstone, dont know the price of there in US, but a nice quiet PSU with 54a on single rail. It has dual 6 pin pcie and single 8 pin pcie!

I have been using Fortron Source power supplies for a number of years. After the warranty expired I opened one up tp look inside. They were constructed very well. Although most people order power supplies through the mail I bought mine at computer shows and often go by the weight.
