Hi anandtech - I am the noob who just joined.

It's about time to grab my brain and start building my next computer - but let me just dig into the background.

Got my first computer when I was 19 years old - and bought a few over the time from pre-building companies and these were fine and worked as advertised. Last time I was looking for an upgrade - I decided to try my luck at building one my self. That was 2018 - in 2020 I build a new one for my friend - it was pretty much as my own but with a worse GPU ( RTX 2060 ) and much better MOBO ( X570 Aorus ) This computer is still running well and is super silent ( for some reason much more than my own )

Case: Be quiet 500D
MOBO: B450 Arsenal Gaming
CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X Stock cooler
GPU: RTX 2070 MSI
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaw RBG 3200
HD: m.2: Gigabyte Aorus 250 GB SSD: 2 Samsungs 500-1000 GB
PSU: 850 corsair
This was swapped due to a problem with the first 1000 watt Be quiet PSU

This computer has been doing well for a few years but I am now experiencing weird shutdowns ( PUBG and New World just shuts down if I run YT or a streaming service next to it ) but it will normally only shut down once! Sometimes it's just a random shutdown with no cause at all - it's so weird.
Maybe it's heat related but I've never seen the heat spike on the CPU - never re-did the stuff between the cooler and the CPU ( cpu cooling paste ) The computer is running for at least 5-10 hours a day.
After a month of troubleshooting I am just fed up and its time to move on with a new one.

Case: HYTE Y60 White edition
MOBO: Gigabyte X570 Aero G
CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X 32 mb cache With NZXT X53 Kraken for cooling
GPU: ??? WHAT TO USE HERE ??? Think of gaming but also keep in mind that it needs to be nice looking as the HYTE will pop it vertically so the fans are facing the glas. I am thinking of the Gigabyte RTX 3060 OC 12 GB white/silver
RAM: 32 GB DDR4 3600 of some random manufacturer
HD:4 slots for m.2 on mobo and 2 SSD slots
PSU: 1000 Watt - probably from Corsair

First stop should be PCPartPicker.com

Put all of your options in and see what the power requirements are. Some GPUs have higher power requirements. Also, for fans Arctic pwm pst fans are nice and quiet and also allow daisy chaining to single headers for easier management. Instead of paste I use graphite pads on my systems and laptops as it makes for easier adjustments w/o needing to clean or reapply over time.

As to the shutdowns. It could be the PSU or something as stupid as a driver. I had an issue with Intel drivers that caused similar issues with stability and shutdowns. Took about two months to pin it down as the logs just showed a kernel event / power.

Is your BIOS up to date? My son's PC (MSI B450 tomahawk, 5600x) had an issue with shutdowns during gaming that were solved with a BIOS update.

So....a little follow up ( no didn't fix my BIOS yet....beeen sooooo busy )

Would the GPU in the proposed build bottleneck the system?

The Ryzen chip will be updated for a 9 5900X as that just went on sale where I live

The 3060 is not really an upgrade in performance from a 2070. Though the extra 4GB of vram should ensure you don't have to potentially lower textures in future titles.

I would just fix the pc you currently have. Easiest thing is to reapply thermal paste. Next, check your power supply. Follow this with driver issues. Do you have the latest driver for your GPU? If so, maybe roll it back to a stable version. Update your motherboard's BIOS. Do all that and report back. In the meantime, save up for the system you really want.

If getting new parts anyway, start with the power supply and try it in your current build, as PSU is a very common cause for complete shutdown, unless you have your bios set to a very low temperature since you observed no spikes.
