I don't like the sound of that Trans Am when it revs. The squawking makes it sound like something is wrong

An 80s or 70s car would be cool for a project vehicle but not a daily driver.

Plus I don't even know what a carburetor looks like, or why a V8 engine would have 6 of them.

jlee, that Supra and MR2 fall into the 2% of 90s cars that weren't mediocre. The Celica... it's still FWD just like nearly every car from back then.

All Trac.

Personally I think the lsX's look shitty without the cover. Those stupid clunky looking coil packs are bolted all over the valve covers. They look like they were just slapped there as an afterthought. Plus with the packs on the covers, you can't have a nice decorative looking valve cover like they used to in the past. So to get around that they put the covers over it as kind of fake valve covers. Makes the engine look cleaner.

They call them fuel rail covers but I think they're really there to hide all the coil pack shit. They just clip on to the fuel rails. I'd rather they would have put the coil packs on the sides of the engine bay, ran some longer wires to the plugs and put some bad ass looking valve covers on the motor. the fuel rails look pretty nice by themselves. I think they're stainless. No need to cover that up. I'm guessing the reason they put the packs right on the motor is it makes it more modular to install. The whole kit and caboodle goes right into the car with minimal connections to be made.

most of the engines today look shitastic without the covers. It's those that don't own them that think they should be removed, the freaking lowbrow.

2 solid reasons why you should never own one.

Ive found it really hard to find a 05-06 GTO manual in decent condition, non abused low miles. I shouldnt have to go 500-1000 miles out of my way to even find the correct model! All I want is that 30k miles non abused manual, is that too much to ask?

The manual part seems to be the sticking point, I've found a bunch of autotragic GTO's up here.

Why are automatic musclecars so popular??

People like the image of being seen in one of these cars, especially the classic names, but they still want to be able to sip their Starbucks or chatter on their cellphones and just generally not pay attention or expend effort.

High compression pistons and a lumpy camshaft.

running a lightweight flywheel makes for quick off-the-line starts (low rotating engine mass is easy to accelerate), but it doesn't smooth out the lumps at idle. a heavy flywheel will run a single cylinder workhorse engine like buttah. but don't expect quick RPM changes.

With swaps they are easier...with shiftkits much like a manual to begin with...in the end if you drag race it's more consistent for bracketing.

Unless you are road racing there isn't much advantage to a manual and since most musclecar guys like cruising, it leaves your hands free and leg from having to work (if you tend to hold a drink in your lap).

Majority of muscle cars even back in the day were automatics. They didn't have 5-6 speed manuals back then anyway. The torque converter was a relatively new and revolutionary thing at that time, and automatics were everywhere with names involving the words "turbo", "turbine", "hydra", etc. Manuals are more of a sports car thing than a muscle car thing, so traditionally automatics are right at home with muscle cars.

How does the LT1 gas mileage compare to the LS1?
Get an LS1, trust me.
^ fuck yes! Be proud of your pushrods, don't try to hide them with gay plastic covers designed to make it look like something else to appease shallow illiterate fools.

The auto trans was a standard part, the manual was an extra option. That's why there are so many more auto trans out there.

I don't know about that if we are talking the 60's....it was usually some crappy manual as standard and 4 speed and autos as options.
