Anyone do the get married in court and skip the affair deal?

My future wife and I have decided that simply going to court and skipping the whole traditional marriage affair would be the easiest, most painless way to get married. It's not something either of us really care for, as a matter of fact we both agree that all the planning that is required would be major pain in the ass. Has anyone here done that? Any regrets?

I knew a number of people in USAF Technical Training that got married at the court house. Not sure how many are still married, most of them knew each other for less than 3 weeks.

Yeah that is a concern, but then again I think my family would be happy either way at this point

My wife and I flew off to Vegas in the middle of the night, got married by a blind Elvis impersonator.

Makes a great story, and still married...will be 15 years in May.

EDIT:

And to answer your question, no regrets (she might have regrets marrying me ,but thats a different post) we were happy to skip all the BS as were our parents, they supported our decision.

I thought a shotgun wedding was something totally different. Namely one where you knock up the girl and are forced to get married.

What you are referring to is elopement.

my wife and i have friends who had some nice land with a small lake on it. we just set up a little arch with some vines and flowers and the preacher and got married there with everybody. we then had the reception at the restaurant that i manage.

a nice blend for us. small enough were we really didnt have to plan anything, and we still got to party with our friends.

We thought long and hard about doing just that, flying to Vegas and getting married by Elvis.

Got married in a church, though. Still had a great party afterwards.

Yep. The "shotgun" part is refering to the pregnant girl's father, who is holding a shotgun behind your back.

We did that. Gave our parents about four days notice. They crashed the courthouse. heh. Been married 11 years now.

I used to service computers throughout the county courthouse. From time to time you would see a courthouse wedding, sometimes in the plaza in front if the weather was nice. Didn't see no shotguns, but I'm sure that it wasn't any further away than the truck.

Most common themes, she was VERY pregnant, or;
the couple didn't have a full set of teeth between them
