Say AI robots become commonplace in the household that they become the house help. Should the robots be given rights so that their owners cannot be verbally or physically towards them? What about the right to live or right to be free robots?
AI robots would take over the world long before they were in enough households to generate this sort of dilemma.
....Should the robots be given rights so that their owners cannot be verbally or physically (?) towards them? What about the right to live or right to be free robots?
A discussion about the price of beans on mars would be just as productive, and a lot more likely to occur.
yes, if they are sapient. isn't this the only reason the OP, or everybody else here has rights?
If AI had human rights, does that mean killing AI enemies in games constitutes murder now?
AI of course should not be given rights, until it can be proven that they are self aware.
It's not even an issue really, the world has enough trouble sorting out human rights at the moment.
Say AI robots become commonplace in the household that they become the house help. Should the robots be given rights so that their owners cannot be verbally or physically towards them? What about the right to live or right to be free robots?
This.
And any "suffering" an AI robot experiences is easily eliminated by reprogramming the machine. It's crying over spilled milk.
I could probably remove nearly all of human suffering with a simple surgery. The same reason this is abhorrent to most people is why we shouldnt do it to a truly sentient AI.
Wait... what is that surgery? Because here we're talking about 'apparent' suffering as a programing error; for humans we could think of some suffering (and do) as an evolutionary error.
Removing fibromialgia and cancer pain would both be well received. Particularly if they had no other deleterious consequences.
Right! If the removal costs something else it's a problem: but otherwise it's a solution.Specificly I was thinking about a prefrontal leucotomy.
Also you can't remove fibromyalgia since no one seems to know what it is, or even if it is an independent diagnosis or a symptom of something else.
You seem so sure of yourself here. The saving grace here is that there will never be a self aware AI.
