There are many issues involved. Overall though do you think the purchase of NBC by Comcast should be approved?

Yes. Who cares if they buy NBC. There are alot of stations owned by Cable providers.

i haven't seen one good reason why comcast shouldn't buy NBC.

So... for those who say no.... what do you think should be done about Time Warner? They own half the media out there.

1. Comcast is much larger than Time Warner Cable, around 23.5 M customers versus 14.6 M customers.

2. Time Warner owns non broadcast channels and not one of the big 4 broadcast channels. I know TW does own 50% of the CW but really, it is the CW.

3. Time Warner and Time Warner Cable are infact different companies.

Not really. Yes... from a "business standpoint", they're separate entities, but as someone who used to work for Time Warner Cable... i can tell you... they're very closely integrated.

Yes, they don't own one of the "big 4" .. but are the big-4 really as big as they used to be?

Time Warner owns CNN, HBO, TBS, CW, WB, Cartoon Network, DC Comics, New Line, Warner Pictures, Time Inc.

This has happened in Canada, and it wasn't that big of a deal. Rogers (cable) bought CITY-TV, and Shaw (cable) is now purchasing Canwest. CITY and Canwest are 2 of the 3 large broadcasters here.

So I say go ahead and let Comcast buy NBC.

Why not?

Its not like anyone watches NBC these days. If Comcast can save the network maybe it is a good idea.

Sure they should. There really isn't anything negative if they do. It's not some evil conspiracy like the 70% that voted no believe. Comcast just wants to expand it's business into other areas in an effort to make more money...just like every single company there is. The business of business is to make more money.

Nobody has yet to provide any realistic reason on why is should not be approved.

Yes, the vertical integration of corporations has never been shown to cause damage to the free market more than like ALMOST every time its been allowed.

Comcast offers paid, over cabl,e television entertainment. Hence they compete with free over the air networks. So, Comcast wants to buy a free, over the air network, to control their competition.

This will not end well for consumers.

^^ Exactly - it also allows them to snuff out Hulu.

If they intentionally run NBC's over the air network into the ground, that means more people will buy cable, since there will be more limited choices on free over the air.

Of course, people could just choose to stream free tv over the internet. But, omg, Comcast is using their cable monoply to support their internet business. Hence, Comcast is limiting how much you can download.

Comcast is clearly acting to limit its competition using its government granted monoply.

NBC has been run into the ground already. There is no way that Comcast could run it further into the ground.

Well, they still have at least some shows.

I guess the rule of thumb for Comcast is if anyone is offering tv for free they want to shut them down or control them.

This, tbfh. My guess is that Comcast is really not happy with people deciding not to spend $80+/mo on digital cable and getting free content off Hulu and other sources. They'll want to either simply kill off Hulu or try to monetize it into a viable revenue source.
