Hey I know what it's like, I tried your way and it totally sucked, but then that's me and I couldn't continue to live that way. You are probably happy with the way you are and thats cool, to each their own but you lecturing others how they should live smacks of you trying to justify your own lifestyle.

BTW I don't smoke dope or take any other illegal drugs mainly because I prefer to go through life with a clear head which is needed to deal with people like you.

QFT. Although I don't agree totally with every aspect of Ayn Rand's philosophy, her point that you have to be your own person, and live for yourself, hit home to me. When I read Rob's post I could literally see Mrs. Rand smacking the sh!t out of him

Edit: Just read Rob's response... and I think him writing in stream of consciousness kind of got him off topic. Mrs. Rand wouldn't be that upset with him

How cannabis use causes schizophrenia
Last Updated: 2:00am GMT 30/01/2007

Studies have shown that heavy use of cannabis can be associated with a fourfold increased risk of developing schizophrenia.

Recent research by Yale University School of Medicine suggests the drug may induce psychosis by its action on receptors in the brain.

The use of cannabis is not thought to be a primary cause of schizophrenia, although there is strong evidence to suggest that the drug can trigger the onset of mental illness in some people with a prior disposition.

And drinking alcohol can lead to alcoholism if you're predisposed to it.

Maybe not the best analogy, but you only have to read your last paragraph again to realize how much of a non-issue this is.

If you've got mental problems, don't be smokin' the pot. Simple. Fortunately, most people on the planet aren't predisposed to metal illness.

I had friends in HS who smoked weed almost every day during lunch and still managed to get close to a 4.0 gpa. Though there were others in HS that smoked just as much but got really lazy and had horrible grades. Is the smoking causing problems for your friends? Doesnt sound like it is, dont worry about it.

..there's plenty of recent research and evidence about the huge problems with dope.
And among users there's the usuall denial of any and all evidence that their desire to achive "dizzy" is a problem all in it self.

I agree that there is a huge problem with denial among users, but anyone who develops schizophrenic tendencies while in the midst of chronic pot abuse had it coming anyway. Pot does not make schizos.

Studies prove what they are paid to prove.

Once a monthy IMO would be fine but every weekend likely 2 days a week etc. IMO they will suffer and are suffering the consequences now but don't realize it. The chronic affects will catch up with them and they will regret it later in life. However it is very unlikely you can do a damn thing about it. Pressing the matter will only get you ostracized from their lives. Simply mention it and then drop it until they bring it up again sometime or if someone else brings it up support them.

Depends. Their jobs/future jobs may be affected. Many companies are not cool with it. Physically and Mentally they are probably fine.

Yeah I've shared this thread with them and they seem to agree with most statements here. But, of course they would.

Untrue. I used to have 0 pot-smoking friends, then just one, told him not to, then a couple, then so many that I had to ask if this was okay/normal.

I'd say no, it's not normal. It causes more damage then good. It's not good for the brain. And to be honest.....they will most likely become "burn-outs" I have worked with a couple of them....and yet they are smart and can function fine...but you can jsut tell.....there's something different about them. Then getting to know them they would talk about all the pot they smoked.....and well...it made sence.
