Hi All,

Should I buy 1080 ti if money is no object or is there something new and better coming out soon in the next few months? See my specs below.

I'm waiting at least a few weeks. Heard the rumor of April 14th being the reveal date for NVidia, but of course that's just a rumor... if you have been following the crypto and video card market at all, all current signs point to good availability (hell, even EVGA has a lot of top models in stock right now) for the near future and I personally think prices will continue to trend downward.

So my personal plan is to wait until at least the 14th... if nothing gets announced then I suspect either way I should have cards for my choosing from the current generation by then, and at decent prices.

I think you will definitely have more info to decide with in a few months.

If money is no object get a Titan V. Or get a 1080Ti and then upgrade to a 2080Ti whenever that comes out, hopefully by the end of the year.

If money is no object, I don't understand how this is even a question. If you are looking to get the best performance today, then buy a 1080ti. If you are looking to have the best performance in a couple months, well you can either gamble and buy the 1080ti, or wait a couple months and see if something better comes out.

If you don't care about price then there is only one card you should even be considering, and that's the Titan V. Also buy an EK water block for it, OC the crap out of it and report your findings here please.

so silly. new cards are always so overpriced and out of stock. THat was before teh mining craze ; ) so yea buy it worst case you sell it after new one comes out or pass it down. chances are the prices are goign to stay the same. i always dream that oh new card comes out going to be so great and lower price then the old card. then see the msrp the price retailers are selling for and never in stock.. ha if you wanted to wait for xmas then yea dont get 1080ti.. real question is what do you have now? im still rocking 980ti sli seems fine for my 4k@60hz one day id like to try 4k@244hz but not sure what year that will be.

Money is clearly an object since you're hesitating. Or there are other factors that you need to tell us about, like crippling laziness that only allows you to install a single video card per year

So how soon could you afford to replace the 1080ti if you do buy it? What other reasons do you have not to just buy it, use it, sell it when the 2080ti or whatever is released?

With everything Pascal being EOL I certainly wouldn't buy at the end of its life cycle. Titan V isn't worth it IMHO either since you'll be paying for things you can't use. I'd wait - in fact, I am waiting.

IF money was no object you would not be on a Z97 4790k,

So most likely half the posts saying titan V does not even apply to you, because your not even on the "X" class chip of that gen, which is still a lot cheaper then a Titan V.

And i dont think you will be able to stomache the inflated prices on a 1080Ti right now, all costing currently more then the entire price as your current system alone.

Thanks All!
I can wait 3 months for this. Already have HDMI 2.0 cable for hooking up my 78 inch TV. Hope my 4790k @ 4.8ghz is enough to drive 4k resolution on it.

Cheers!

P.S. The TV cost 6500 in 2014. Yes money is no object so long as the item is reliable and ahead of it's time.

I doubt the GTX 2080 will be as fast as the Titan V. If money is no object, do as
moonbogg says.

I think there's also a certain level of laziness in upgrading Mobo and CPU, even if money is of no concern. You have to remove most of the system, heatsink and fan, usually reinstall OS, etc.

But I agree OP is exaggerating or he'd get a Titan V right now, and on the rare chance the GTX 2080 is faster he'd upgrade to that in a few months. Replacing GPUs is very easy and fast, so laziness is not a factor - only money.

The price of GPUs has made me keep my current system for longer than I had really wanted to. I'm just gonna limp along until I can finally buy a gaming card that is high end for normal pricing. In the meantime my consoles get all the love.

I think you all got carried away here. 1080 ti is $700 MSRP, and ~950 right now. Titan V is $3000, or more than 4x MSRP, 3x right now. The original question is if money is no object is it worth buying 1080 ti or wait for next gen GPU in a few months. Stick with the subject. Nowhere did I mention Titan V.

OP, I would wait till the new cards come out this summer. You won't regret the wait.

There is always something better coming out in the future. I say buy when you're ready to buy and buy what you need.

If money's no object then get a custom card designed and built, and pay for influence with developers and microsoft to ensure compatibility, etc.

And if you don't mind, have open source drivers available for Linux please.

Unless you're dying for the performance right now I would wait and see. The last few generations the new xx80 product has been about as fast or faster than the previous flagship (xx80 Ti or Titan model). 1080 > 980 Ti, 980 > 780 Ti etc. I think you can expect the 2080/1180 whatever they call it to be at least equivalent to the 1080 Ti, probably a little faster, and have newer features and better power consumption.

Spring is when we see the announcements here typically so you'd be waiting between 1-6 months for new cards. If you're hurting for the performance now I'd get a 1080 Ti now knowing it will still be a champion of a card until the next gen Ti comes a year or two from now.
