Should I buy a 7300GT/DDR3/128mb or 7600GS/DDR2/256mb ?

Guys,

Im so confused right now ! Have a hundred bucks to spend on a card that can carry on
for 2 years and there are so many options. I wanna go with nVidia.

I play games like Far Cry and Fifa 2006 and do not play Quake and Doom. Please help

Go for the 7300GT with GDDR3 - amount of graphics memory isn't as important for the games *you* play.

Thanks. So do I understand that if I were to play FEAR or Doom3 some day, the 7600GS @ 256MB would be the better choice ?

I have searched around, but could not really find any articles on how memory plays a role in the moderm games. I did see on comparison that came to the conclusion that a 512mb 7600gs was just a wee bit better than a 265mb 7600gs.

However, 128mb seems measly and hence the worry !!!

My Leadtek 7300GT 128meg DDR3 is overclocked to 630GPU/1620memory on an A64 3500+@2,5GHz. I get right at 12,000 on 3DMark 03, 5025 on 3DMark 05, 2000 on 3DMark 06, and 71,400 on Aquamark3. This is a good card and I'm really satisfied with it. I'm lloking to get a second for SLI this Christmas. I run flight sims(FS9, CFS3, IL-2 Sturmovik, and programs like AOE3 and Silent Hunter III) and performance is generally fluid. I have FS9 set at max and get frame rates in the area of 45-55fps. I've run the FSX demo and get much lower frame rates but so does everybody else. The DDR3 memory will make the card outperform the average 7600GS, probably even overclocked.

How about the EVGA 7600GTS or even a 7600GT? Have your cake and eat it too, for some where around ~$120...

If that isn't possible, good luck choosing. For higher detail levels the 256 is becoming a requirement. For AA, you'll need the DDR3 bandwidth. Not an easy decision for me. The 7300GT in this case will provide better raw performance, however.
