should i buy a g73 now?

I found a deal locally for a g73sw-bts6, best buy version for $900 cash. Do you guys think I should wait for the g73 to go down some more since the g74 is out? or just go with a g73jh/jw for about the same price? I know the best buy version is gimped with the video card and screen reso, but it has the new sandy bridge cpu. Or i could get a brand new g74 from best buy for 1199. what do you guys think?

Well, why are you getting one? Is it going to be your primary machine? Is portability an issue, or size? Why not get a desktop? Are you only interested in the G73/74 line?

A little scant on the details, if you ask me. From what information I have (assuming gaming is your main concern outside of casual computer use), I'd say it's a good enough deal but with Llano looming on the horizon (well, I really should say it's galloped well past the horizon and is staring at you dead in the face) I'd still say wait unless your money's burning a hole in your pocket.

Or, with $900, you can build a blazing fast desktop that will easily outpace $1500 notebooks - but you didn't say why you wanted one.

gonna be using it as a desktop replacement. desktop is out of the question, im not too concerned about every single fps, just good performance.

Considering you can get a Sager at this time for similar performance and price, I'd say it's warm, not hot, at best.

Unless you don't have a computer of any sort I'd still stand by my assertion that you should wait for Llano platform systems to be readily accessible and for the back to school sales to start in earnest.

If your heart is really set on this and you want validation for buying this, well, you're not going to get it from me; but I'd say try to negotiate for $850 if you can considering you can get the same item off of Amazon for $950 used.

The G73JH is a good laptop, had one for a couple weeks.
Don't get a best buy version unless it is a JH model, the JW/SW models from Best Buy have downgraded video cards.
Say a GTX 460m in a sager is 100%, in the Best Buy model they cut down the specs so it's only like 65%.

This problem does not exist in the JH version.

I have one, got it 5 months ago for $1,012 (with two year warranty) is a really solid and well built machine, cant tell it is recertified.

I just purchased a G73SW at Tiger Direct. It came with the GTX460M graphics card 1.5 GB of DDR5 RAM. The thing I liked about this laptop, is that I wanted a 17.3 screen, 8GB of RAM that I can upgrade to 16. And I wanted a SSD. This laptop does not come with an SSD, but it does come with one empty slot to add one. I purchased the Kingston 128 SSD for $184 at Costco.com and put it in as my Drive C, and left the Seagate 500GB as my storage Drive D. This is now the laptop I always wanted. Unfortunatey, trying to buy a laptop with an SSD is extra expensive and few manufacturers have them. One other thing I liked about the ASUS is that is has a 24 month warranty that includes the first 12 months of water spillage, dropping, etc. I've never seen a warranty like that before. Awesome!!
