I bought an M4A2. Pretty happy with it. Lots of fun, looks cool, and reliable.

If you do ED and get the base model with manual trans it's only about $62

And no we stuck with sensatech. It feels more soft and would be easier to clean
To each their own I guess. We test drove a 3 series last year. The leather in our Forester feels better than that crap. Plus, it seemed less breathable than leather. I'd rather have cloth.

Slugg we already have two M4 platforms one is piston driven the other is a basic plinker.

I think the 228 out edges the s3 slightly if I recall. We looked at an s3 but eh

The S3 is still like 10k more isn't it? If you're leasing, Audi has horrible rates compared to BMW I've found. Not sure on the S3 motor, but the 228 is under-rated based on some baseline dynos that are out there.

I think BMW under states the new motors a lot, based on a few reports some people are seeing as high as 315rwhp on the 335i. It should be closer to 290rwhp with drive train loss.

Audi under states as well. The current S4 is rated at 333 and most are coming in at around 410. It's common for both brands.

Between the two vehicles I'd go S3 but I've driven one and there increidbly fun. Very much like an E46 M3 in driving characteristics and the engine is just beautiful.

Perhaps the best car ever made. Interesting comparison.

M4 would be a hard special order anyways no ED discount dealer allocations. Plus resale value on the a base M4 is gonna not be as great as their normal orders. M235i in Eblue is sweet. Plus the M235i is going back to 2002ti roots in size so enjoy and spread the legs on the beast on the bahn

You were considering an M4, but ended up with a 235i
Did you read the thread? Price points man.

I've actually seen several user reviews comparing the e46 m3 to the m235i. It seems the m235i slightly edges out the e46 but everyone prefers the e46. I would too but numbers don't lie.

Plus finding a gently used e46 is damn hard.

What doesn't make sense? I can't afford an M4. The m235i puts up similar performance numbers to an e46 m3.

Just found it odd that you're cross shopping cars across a broad spectrum of cost (your post suggested you'd also consider an e46, too), and considering an M4 which is outside your financial reach.

It wasn't that far out of reach. And I wasn't ever considering an e46. Though I wouldn't object to having one if the price was right. Most people out here still want close to 30k for them.

if you wanted to save cash, you wouldn't have bought a BMW to begin with.

har har har. we're getting married and want a souvenir from our honeymoon. and we liked BMW's entry level cars more than the other German manufacturers.
