Should i buy Athlon X2 or Optron

Hey Guys, i want to build a PC to do Video editing as well as Photoshop, should is use an Athlon or Optron ?

Not real world ??? If you OC the conroe to 3.4 (which is easy) it is TWICE as fast at encoding as my OC'ed X2's @2.5

Conroe is the new core similar to the X2, not the P4 which is what you probably hate. Check my sig, I have 5 of each... I know if what I speak. I am not biased, it based on real facts.

He's right, I really like my X2, but conroe is definatly faster at everything. Pentium-D's were horrible, but conroe is entirely differant, I got a very noticable real world differance in video encoding with my E6600.

Yes, I would agree with you, but Conroe or Core 2 Duo is a newer technology that is faster than X2, P D and X2 i feel is in same class, The next AMD processor will kick Conroe's ass. I maybe be wrong but time will tell. Since AMD and ATI Team up who knows.

So do you want advice on what to build now or what ? And the PD was never in the same class as X2. Actually Conroe is closer to the same class as X2, just a little faster, but overclocks better.

I'd go with a X2 3600 Brisbane. It's the cheapest decent performing dual-core. Don't bother with c2d unless your willing to spend the extra money.

Definitely go with the C2D. And I haven't owned an Intel since 1998. Got one now; far superior to AMD for what I use it for. Easy OC to 3.2ghz, rock stable.

my 4800+ X2 loves Adobe Premiere Pro it runs blasting FAST than c2d I am happy with my cpu

Are you overclocking at all? The X2 3600+ is pretty good if you are overclocking, if not then look for an Athlon X2 that fits your budget.

Your 4800 is only faster than the E4300 & E6300, and just barely at that. Every other C2D will eat it's lunch, and that's before they're overclocked.

For Adobe Photoshop, the E6400 outperforms the FX-62. For video editing/rendering/encoding, the E6600 outperforms the FX-62. If money are not a factor for you, the best CPU for video editing is the quadcore Core2 QX6700.
Anyway, if you are going to OC your CPU, than there is no AMD CPU that overclocked can match the performance of an overclocked Core2 E6400.

I just asked which chip is more faster, i want to use a socket 939 because i have 2gb of ddr performance ram and i'd hate to part with them. Thanks Guys

You can use your DDR RAM with Core2. For example ASRock 775 Dual VSTA.
Anyway if you want to get a s939 CPU, then at same clock, there is no difference in the performance between X2 with 2x1MB L2 and Opteron. If you plan to OC, than Opteron 170 is the best choice. Higher clocked Opteron models 175, 180 or 185 can only marginaly exceed the freqfency of OC-ed 170.
