I only own previous gen console, xbox and ps2, and currently have a backlog of ~20 games that i've bought on these consoles and never touched yet. since i am really addicted to guild wars on pc.

The reason I want guitar hero ii is so my fiancee can get off my back on gaming, i plan to get her addicted to ghII and maybe i'll have fun playing it too with her.

should i buy the 80 dollar bundle pack or should i buy the double guitar pack?

Not sure about the double guitar pack. But definitely buy the game, it's an absolute blast. I have gotten so many friends into it. All they had to do was play it a time or two and they were hooked. And some of these friends were totally disinterested when I told them I got the game, but after seeing it they were dying to get a copy for themselves =)

I haven't seen the double guitar pack, it might be fun, though I don't use the co-op/multiplayer mode much. I have the ps2 version and most all my friends have Xbox 360. Actually, you'll probably love the game so might as well get the double pack unless that kinda financial investment is just too much for ya.

Yes. And with a little know how you can make custom song disks and have a library of 1000+ songs.

Care to expand on the custom song discs without getting this thread locked?

Also I vote yes, I picked up the 360 version the day it was released and every "non-gamer" I've introduced it to has loved it.

Sure. There's an active GH2 mod community that makes custom midis. It has the blessing of Red Octane, so long as no custom midis are made of existing songs. The midis are generally free to download and you can get them at sites like www.scorehero.com. I say it has the blessing of Red Octane because they sponsor the site.

Now the midi only has the instructions for the game on where to put the notes on the scrolling chart. You need to acquire the music by yourself. But if you already have the mp3 of the song you want to play and a custom midi is available, you can mod the game to play the song. You can find instructions on how to load the songs on scorehero as well. If you don't have a HD on your PS2, you'll need a modded PS2 to load the disk. I think that discussion, however, is better left off this forum.

I bought a copy of it the other day at a resale shop on a whim.
Man I didn't realize what I was missing. What a great game.

I played it at my half brothers and I still don't see what the big deal over this game is. I just could not get into it. It was fun for a few tracks but I didn't want to keep playing.

ALso the clicking on the controller is so ridiculously loud, I really don't understand why they made it click. It takes away from the sound of the song. And sorry guys, not everyone plays games on 7.1 surround sound blasting it

I kind of agree. I think that the game is fun, but it just doesn't keep my attention. I get tired of playing the same songs over and over. I played it the first few weeks after I bought it, but now it just sits there. Thinking about selling it or just letting it collect dust until someone comes over and wants to play it.

I'm not sure if I'd go so far as to say it has the blessing of Red Octane
But the forum mods there are very careful not to allow any posting of mp3's, or original files from the game or anything like that so as long as there aren't activities there that impact the bottom line for Red Octane/Activision they've thus far turned a blind eye to it.

Just make sure you read all the stickies and stuff before you start asking questions, they tend to be very intolerant of questions being repeated over and over again when the answers are in the FAQ's lol

The biggest problem with custom songs is that it requires that you mod your ps2 and a lot of people don't want to take that step.

As for the original quesition..
I'd buy the double guitar pack so that you and your wife or your friends or your wife's friends or whoever can play co-op. If you both end up enjoying the game, you'll eventually want that anyway and it's cheaper to buy the bundle than an extra guitar separately. Of course if you buy your guitars separately you can get wireless controllers...

I only say that 'cause they threw Scorehero a nice chunk of change for the server upgrades. So they're at least aware that there's a mod community out there and don't go stomping on it like a record label

Actually Harmonix threw the chunk of change to scorehero for their upgrade. Red Octane has since gone their own way with Activision who turned the development of Guitar Hero over to their internal developing company Neversoft. Harmonix is no longer working on guitar hero at all, and is working on their new title Rock Band (which looks like it is going to be incredible, can't wait to see how it turns out).

I wanna buy this game too. I've never played any of them yet. What's the best way for me to jump into it now? Should I buy a box set with guitar, or get the game and get a wireless guitar separately or what?

Thanks!

My advice right now is to wait until GH3 and Rock Band hit, and "invest" your money into a wireless guitar. I've already purchased 2 wired guitars for my 360 because that was the only option, although I'll be updating them at some point with the wireless Rock Band guitars. If the Rock Band guitars end up not working with GH3, then I'll just keep my wired for that game only.

I have it for the 360 and I've watched my brother play the game numerous times on the PS2 (both GH and GH2 on many different difficulties) and I still don't enjoy it. I just bought it so if anyone comes over and wants to play it, that's a possibility. Personally, I enjoy DDR more than Guitar Hero .

I love Guitar Hero, I only wish they wouldn't gouge us on the DLC or at least make it a la carte. My fiance LOVES it and I usually have to coax her into casual gaming like Mario Party or Super Monkey Ball. This is the first game that she's actually turned on a console for other than Brain Age on the DS. I probably had a shocked look on my face when she emerged from the closet with my Fisher Price-looking guitar.

Personally, I have 38 of the 48 songs beaten on Expert but there are a few people on ATCF that have mentioned 5-Starring all the songs on Expert. I probably won't get to that level.

In short: GET IT.

Oh yeah, I didn't mention that I have a PS2 and a PS3. Which guitars are the best? Where to get a good deal on this game and/or accessories?

Since you have a PS3, I'd definitely wait a few months and strongly consider the Rock Band guitars. Provided that they are confirmed to work with GHIII, they have a special set of fret buttons that the other controllers will seemingly not have. See Here.

I badly want to get a 2nd Xbox 360 guitar for co-op, but I've promised myself to wait for the wireless Rock Band guitar.
