Killer sale for $799 + tax

Link to Circuit City for Specs

I was gonna hold out for an older 40" HDTV Sony Tube TV XBR-700 with matching stand for $800 - $1000 used but his came up and damn it if my living room could support a massive 40" of TV.

Current TV is a 32" Trinitron SOny that I have had for the last 5yrs.

Thoughts?

Go for it, a friend has it and IMO its a great tv. Better than my 27" hdtv...

I am not HDTVMan... Sounds good. Meets with 720p and 1080i support (missing on some "HD" TVs). As always, wish it had more than 2 Component connections (HD Tuner, Basic DVD, and Xbox / PS/2/3 mean 3). But man, $800! What a deal!

Since my usage is more WS DVD/HDTV and some SDTV, I would get a 30" or 32" WS LCD for around $900-$1000.

is this a 4:3 tv? if so, then i would have to say no. i know widescreen content isnt prevalent, but it IS the future.

instead, i would get the 30" XS955 or 34" XBR960. Both widescreen, hdmi, hdtv, built in OTA HD tuners.
the 30" can be had for about $900.

That sounds like a great deal. Last year, we bought a 32" regular flat screen TV for $550 so a 36" HDTV for $800 sounds killer.

Get it! Enjoy 4:3 SD content now, and just live with the 16:9 black bars on top and bottom. You'll hardly even notice them, and $799 is a DEAL. The picture quality is awesome on that CRT.

4:3 is on its way out. HDTV is normaly broadcasted in 16:9. If you have 4:3 you will have black bars at the tope and bottem of the screen.

And when you're watching the local news or something, get even more annoying black bars on the sides or stretch it and everyone looks deformed.

Sony's "wide zoom" mode is pretty damn good. after having a 16:9 tv, i dont even feel like things are stretched anymore.

and this is coming from someone who was always Anti-WS.
