So anyways, it turns out I won the 8086k (but idk will prob take another month to ship), now I'm not sure if it would be worth the hassle to exchange it for the threadripper, unless I sell TR on ebay and get a 2600x and mem/mobo combo for the same price. Hmm

I'd go for but I am a bit of a core freak. I mean honestly tech wise doing an LE cherry pick of the best of the best CPU's isn't nearly as good as what AMD did with Threadripper and to a degree it would be like not trying to turn in a 8700k for 7900x. It might not be the fastest gaming CPU ever, but it's an upgrade and for free.

8086k will run on normal boards, TR requires expensive boards, the 1950x will probably lose most of it's appeal with TR2, so not sure if it's a good trade tbh, fo my own use I wouldn't, and for selling... not sure, 8086k is going to be easier to sell I think.

Yeah I doubt most of us are able to make full use of TR, or at least enough to be worth buying an expensive motherboard for it.

Way too much work.. use the TR as a VM server, and start hosting, coding, learning stuff that will increase your value far more than an Intel CPU.

Well, I applied for amd exchange, but it looks like Intel wins on a technicality https://www.amd.com/system/files/documents/AMD-Competitor-Prize-Exchange-Promotion-Terms.pdf where there's a timeframe by which the prize must be received (sept 3), therefore all intel has to do is to send out processors after that date. Either amd will modify its terms or intel ships earlier, otherwise not a single person will qualify

I wont be comitting larger money on current tech until the latest slew of meltdown/spec. reading exploits have been fixed in hardware..

Cascade Lake for Intel and Zen2 for AMD should have those fixes.
