Decided to make dinner and wanted to try something "seafood" so I made crab cakes. I normally despise any kind of seafood, so I was surprised that I actually liked them.

Avocado salsa on the side--best stuff EVER

Crab Cakes!

edit directions:
2 eggs, lightly beaten
11oz crab meat
1 tablespoon mayo
green onion finely chopped
2 teaspoons sweet chili sauce
1 1/4 cups fresh white breadcrumbs
oil for shallow-frying
lime wedges for serving

for salsa:
3 ripe roma tomatoes, chopped
1 small red onion, finely chopped
1 large ripe avocado, diced
1/4 cup (or less) lime juice
1 teaspoon sugar

1. combine eggs, crab meat, onio, mayo, sweet chili sauce, and breadcrumbs in a bowl. stir well. using wet hands, form them into small patties, cover and refrigerate for 30 min.

2. For salsa: put tomatoe, onion, avocado, lime juice and sugar in bowl. season to toss with salt/pepper and toss gently.

3. heal oil over stove until you can drop a cube of bread in and it browns in 15 seconds. Cook crab cakes over medium heat for 6 minutes or until brown on both sides. Drain on paper towel.

4. EAT!

I know, I forgot to drizzle it with some sauce and place some mint leaves and raspberry on the plate. Next time.

I second that, please post or PM the recipes you used for your meal. I'm working on my cooking and need all the help I can get.

It's actually because you didn't use any foie gras or shark fin in addition to the crab. Hot bean paste would be optional for this dish.

Nice. Crab cakes are actually pretty easy. If you don't like seafood, you can substitute crumbed sausage (good with sawmill gravy!), or even shredded chicken. Canned crab claw meat works pretty well, but fresh crab is the way to go if you want the proper "salty sweet" flavor. I chop a small jalepeno and add some celery to mine instead of the chili sauce.

The problem is I never make these becase when I get done cooking crab legs, they look so good I end up eating them before I can make anything out of 'em

foie gras and crab? Ewww....not something I'd see going together. Shark Fin would be more Japanese. Crab Cakes are pure East Coast US. You'd want lobster, clams, lemon, and corn with these
