Should I get a Fury X or wait?

I have a Asus GTX 970 Strix at the moment, I play mostly recent games at 1080p but planning to move to UHD/UWHD really soon and there is a big price cut on XFX Fury X, 586$ CAD including shipping, making it cheaper than any GTX 1070 for where I live.

I am not in a rush to change but at the same time stepping up to Fury X for that price (300$ after selling my 970) doesn't seem like a bad plan.

Wait to 2017 cards or jump with Fury X now?

Don't buy a Fury X. The 4GB of VRAM will prove a limitation down the line if you plan to keep your card for a significant length of time. If you are moving to WQHD or UHD, your best bet will be an 8GB GTX 1070, IMO. I would save the extra cash and buy that or, as you said, wait for the 2017 crop of cards.

I agree on the vRAM limitations, 4GB was great for the last 24 months, but looking into the future, newer titles will want more. OP I would wait for 2017, there is bound to be price cuts and release of new products which will make upgrading far less painful.

I thought 4GB HBM was a bit less limiting but I'll wait 2017, no rush.

Its a shame on the 4GB on the Fury X. Its just starting to come into its own with the newer API's (look at its Doom Vulkan performance) but the 4GB is not going to be enough going forward. I agree with the others that you should wait.

Wait till 2017 then pick Vega or GP104 whichever is better at the price point you want to buy. Fury X is already limited by its 4GB and going forward it will be even more of a problem especially for UHD.

Unless you have a freesync monitor amd has nothing for high end really as going for a fury these days is a waste compared to grabbing a 1070.

Either do that or vega sometime in 2017 is what you need.
