Should I get a macbook?

I want to get a new laptop but I am undecided on which one to get.
Should I get a macbook? Why or why not?

You should get a Macbook if you want to run OS X and don't want to screw around with installing on a non Mac laptop.

just bought a black 2.0ghz macbook saturday, it's awesome. I just love the feel and the size of the macbook compared to the 12" I use to own.

I'm thinking about one...I don't know, I went to take a look in the store, and it seemed kinda small, especially with the widescreen format. Might go for a slightly used 14" iBook G4 instead.

I guess if you're a student you get a free ipod nano or 180 toward a different kind of ipod.

Your comparison of a T42 vs a macbook seems off, I don't think they sell the t42 anymore and if you look at the t43 model it's considerably more expensive even at a student discount. Dollar for dollar I think the macbook is a pretty good deal.

Lenova is still riding the IBM Quality wave. To buy a lenova is to take a gamble at this point - they may not have the same longevity the IBMs did.

T42's on eBay are around 700, including the 2-3 year transferable warranty, some with NBD.

I realize macbooks are a good deal, and I also qualify for a student discount. But we're talking an almost 50% increase for a laptop that can do just about the same as a T42.

Convince me... please. Or at least tell me where I can find one used.

I just ordered the black one from amazon for $1399(after $100 rebate) with free shipping and no damn tax.

I also have the 1.83 white macbook here which i also got from Amazon, but i'm returning it because the white just doesn't do it for me.

The 1.83 Ghz white macbook is a great deal if you don't mind the white color. I really wish i did not mind the white since it would of saved me a ton of money, but what can i say, i'm a vain bastard and now have to pay out the nose for the black one.

I have a MacBook Pro and love it. I just got my sister a MacBook for when she leaves for her first year of college, and it's an awesome little machine. Feels very sturdy, the screen is actually very nice (I had a few reservations about it), and unless you need an über video card, it is great. Feature for feature very close to the MacBook Pro, and it's price is to die for.

I got her a white 2.0 with 1 gig of RAM, and an 80 gig hard drive. I figure this machine will last her 4 years of school and still keep on chugging. I think the 150 dollar premium for the color black is just not worth it, plus I kinda like the white better.

the only complaint I have about the macbook is the volume, it doesn't seem to be as loud as my previous powerbook.

The price is fine with me since I like OS X and can use basecamp or parallels to run Win XP. For the specs, the price is also comparable to other ATI Mobility x1600 laptops.

What kills it is that the laptop gets too hot. Any machine that runs that hot isn't gonna last as long as I need it to.

We're talking about the "Macbook" not the "Macbook Pro".

I thought Lenova had been building IBM laptops for a while now and all that happened was they officially took over? Or am I way off base?

I love my Macbook. I've only had it a few weeks but I've been out of town and at 3 different hotels in the past 1.5 weeks, this thing was a lifesaver. I don't know how I survived without a laptop before

Very true, my biggest complaint now, as well. The onboard speakers are weak, to say the least.

No QC, wait for few more months. Looks like Apple's at QC-Hell again. Seriously, some of the issues sounds like they never tested the stuff. The paint issue and over-heating issue would've been caught if they had some decent product testing. (Plus they under-clock their GPU).
