Should I get a SK7?

My 1800+ T-bred is running t around 2.22ghz (212x10.5) @ 1.62 volts. The thing i'm cooling this with is a $6 GC68 and the idle temps now are around 41C. The internal die temps are around 54C idle. Also, I'm dealing with the California summer. If I do get a $20 sk7 from svc, how much of a temp difference should I see? Also, which cheap ($5 and under)fan would go good with this heatsink? Thanks for the help.

SK7 is an excellent heatsink, match it up with a Panaflo fan and you've got a nice quiet heatsink, if you expect really low temps you might want to get a YS Tech Adjustable fan or Vantec Tornado.

Would a svc quad led 80 mm fan do a good job also? Not looking forward to paying $9 for the ys-tech fan or for that insanely loud tornado fan.

The svc quad fan is 36cfm correct? I used a 39cfm sunon on my sk7 and it matches the temps for my TT smartfan2 @ up to 75cfm, go figure. The svc fan should be fine.

yeah, i thought so too but IMO they are waaaaaaaay louder. my bro has 4 in his system and he cant go to sleep @ night if it's on.

32db is quite loud. I had 4 Panaflo H1a's in my system that were also rated @ 32db, 39cfm. Way too loud to be considered quiet. Remember db scale is logarithmic.

You don't even need a good fan... I'm using a 70mm 4500 RPM fan that came on a pretty crappy heatsink I bought from TigerDirect a few years ago for an Athlon 1.2... my temps don't go above 50 C unless the ambient room temp is 80 degrees F.

Wow 32dba 80mms are loud? I have 5 :Q. I guess when you are used to 60mm and 80mm deltas everything else sounds like background noise

Will I see a significant difference between this and my GC68. Right now my athlon xp @ 2100mhz 1.5V is idling at 40.5C on my GC68. I'm looking to get my chip to run 2300mhz @ 1.7V and idle at around 30 to 37C and full load under 47C.

Spend the little extra $ and get the ys-tech adjustable. It's not gonna break you, and it is well worth the money. You get what you pay for, ESPECIALLY in computer components. Always buy good power supplies, motherboards, ram and fans... It's worth it in the long run, trust me.

You might want to make sure the SK7 will fit on your motherboard.

I'm sure it will fit as my GC68 fits fine. I know the ys-tech one is a good fan with the adjustable knob, but I already have a target cfm/dba I can tolerate and also would like the quad blue lights.

Well i got a Panaflo 92mm H1A (that's 35dba) and I gotta admit it's not too loud. Course I got 5 80mm Fans and another Panaflo in there (same H1A) although they're all 7 Volt Modded and it's just a dull thrum.... maybe 32dba isn't loud for say a 80mm fan but is loud for a 60mm fan because the pitch is different? I'll tell you some of those 60mm fans are ANNOYING, the high pitch sound just cuts through everything whereas the big fans just emit a nice dull hmm with air moving.

I slapped on a ~ 3100 rpm 80 mm fan on my GC68, it's kinda loud and annoying. I would say its about 33 to 35 dBa. I probably will get the $2.80 quad blue from SVC, its rated to only 30dBa, and pushes 32cfm. I think thats a mistake or typo though since it's 3000 rpm and pushes less cfm than their 2500 rpm svc fans.
