Should I get a Wii U?

I'm debating it.

Wind Waker is enticing me. I have it for GameCube and have since the day it came out for that platform, but never finished it. Always meant to... and improved graphics are the perfect reason to.

That said, my Wii collects dust... the controller is awfully wide and weird...

I'm not sure what upcoming games I'll get on it other than the new Zelda for Wii U I've heard about.

$300 for a remake of one game? Really?

If WW is truly all that interests you, just play it on the Dolphin Emulator and save yourself $350.

By the time something else has come out, there will have probably been at least one price drop.

does it have games you want to play? can you afford it? if so get it. it really isn't a hard decision to make and only you can make it.

Personally it isn't worth it. I sold mine and do not regret it. Wait for more games I say.

Get a Wii U if you like Nintendo games. It's also getting almost every big multi platform game if that matters to you.

At this point, no, don't get one. There's very little reason to, especially if you already own the only game it has that interests you. It can't justify its price tag as it stands, and as the new consoles come out, you may see a price reduction in the WiiU in the coming months.

This console is dead in the water. Frankly I'll be surprised if it survives at all after the XBO and PS4 are released.

Not now, wait till 2Qtr 2014. By then we will see a few things;

- Mario Kart U, Smash Bros, Mario and DKC reviews
- Post PS4 and Xbox One Wii U sales
- Late 2014 game roadmap

In my opinion it's basically game over, this is not like the 3DS where a game can be made in 3-6 months with 15 people. After those games are released there will be another drought of Nintendo titles and I doubt they will lead to any sustained sales past 2 weeks.

To put it in some context.

The Wii U would need to sale 425,000 consoles a month starting now consistantly over the next 5 years to even be compared to the Gamecube. It is selling around 100k a month right now and Pikman3, Wonderful 101, Zelda WW HD, etc. never provided sustained boosts to sales past 2 weeks. The price drop and Zelda WW HD bundle only provided a +66% increase in sales which flatlined.

66% increase might sound like a lot but that only put it at 35,000 (est) a week world wide which is terrible. Nintendo has not adjusted their sales projections for the fiscal year which was 8 million. If they still expect to do that they would need to see a 1800% increase in sales week over week from now until next March.

This is WITHOUT bringing into question the PS4 and Xbox One releases, the Wii U sales in North America are going to be absolutely terrible with only Mario coming out as their answer (Nov 22 release date).

I expect to see a marginal boost to sales for the final weeks of November and possibly a +150% increase over the entire month of December expecting PS4 and Xbone shortages. If there are no shortages it won't break a 100% increase for the month.

If you wait until about 2 weeks after all those games come out you will have a very good idea how well the Wii U's life is going to be lived.

I just bought a Wii U Windwaker Bundle and I love it. Well worth the 300 bucks. If you are a CASUAL gamer who does not spend a lot of time on consoles then there are plenty of games out and are coming out. I never completed Windwaker on Gamecube the sailing sucked. But with the new speed sail it makes things much faster and fulfilling.

Another reason I love the Wii U is that you are not tied to a big screen TV. I use it while I am on the couch with my family. It does not tie up the TV so I am not hearing any complaints. I bought Black OPs 2 and the experience is far better on the Wii U. Being able to get high kill ratio on the couch while my fam is watching TV is awesome.

Personally I am going to skip PS4 and Xbone as I have a PC that can handle most games that are out and I am a VERY CASUAL gamer. It has to be a blockbuster or a game I really want to play for me buy something.

If you constantly buy games and can't wait 2 months between a new title release then the Wii U is not for you. I expect Windwaker to take me another month or two to complete so that is why I can wait for Mario Land and Donkey Kong.

Not every game works the way you describe (on the gamepad). The Gamepad also has pretty bad color and resolution compared to a good TV as well. Some games require you to use both the TV and the gamepad to even play it.

i do find his reasoning to get a wii u amusing in that if you want to only play 1 console game a year on your tv, then the wii u is the console to get, then making it as though 6 games a year is "a lot" of games to play.

When some games are only 8 hours long in total gameplay, it's truly not.

I love Nintendo so I say yes

It does have some great games and it is a fun system. I own Wind Waker and am playing it now. The new Mario is looking very good. That said, it's possible the system will not have a long life given continue anemic sales. If that matters to you, it's probably not worth it. But if you want to play and enjoy some great games now, I think it is.

It's starting to feel a bit like the Dreamcast.

6 games a year is a lot for some people. If I played 6 games last year I would be shocked. I will probably only play Nintendo's AAA games next year. Call of Duty is losing its appeal. 300 dollars for one game is a lot but it is Zelda. Arguably the best franchise ever. Plus we will eventually get a new Zelda game next Christmas I would think.

The Wii's gamepad screen is reasonably good for what it is. Is it an retina ipad? No. Is it better than a 3ds? yes. I can barely tell a difference from my Panny Plasma to the gamepad on Windwaker.

The Wii U is good if you know what you are getting into but as this is a tech forum I would imagine there are a lot of true gamers on here that would get bored quickly with the library. Either way good luck OP, I am very happy with my purchase.

But at least with the Dreamcast, it set sales records when it released and had many great games in the same amount of time that the WiiU has been released.

I feel like the Wii U games lineup is about to explode so... YES. Buy one at the new low price.

My only complaint about the system is that it has slow ass menus. Which confuses me because the 3DS is much faster... yes has a slower processor. Puzzle me that.

Your opinion is equivalent to someone asking a Nvidia fanboy what graphics card to buy.

As someone who has all three current systems and then some. Xbox 360, Wii, Wii U, PS3, 3DS, PC, PC, PC, PC and a few more PC's. I feel your decision should go like this:

Is there at least two or three games on that console that I'm going to play and love for numerous hours. If yes then buy it.

So if you like Nintendo games like Super Smash, Zelda, Metroid, Mario Party, Nintendo Sports Games, Mario etc. then buy one because you will use it. Did you have a Wii? This is like a better Wii with graphics that don't hurt your eyes.

Metroid, mario party, and a new zelda title are NOT announced titles.

Yes Dolphin is great, I've used it before for this porpoise. Like I said above... only buy if there are a few games you want to play.

I jumped in on the Zelda bundle. Limited Edition Zelda hardware is always nice to have down the road.

On the plus side, it will take zero effort to have a complete library when it fails. :awe:

DO you seriously think Nintendo isn't making them?

That is like saying they aren't already working on the next Battlefield or COD or Final Fantasy.

If they aren't announced it's the same as if they were not. It's useless for them to sit on games they have in the works with literally zero info released about them. Just telling people they were doing a new metroid game and a new zelda game and what they might be called or even some artwork would sell tons of consoles overnight. Since they cannot produce these things for us, it tells me they are 100% incompetent.

You're stupid if you compare this to CoD etc. Activision, EA, and Square-Enix are not trying to sell consoles. They make games only. Nintendo needs to sell systems and with the Wii-U they are failing miserably. Even the Vita is outselling it lately.

Nah man, it's classic Nintendo. I'm cool with them slowly releasing the Nintendo brand games. In this current gaming ecosystem I have enough games to play until the day I die. I like the slower pace of quality games. Not some crap that gets rushed out the door. I'm looking at you Electronic Arts!!! Sim City was a disaster D:
