I've been waiting for the price to drop on the ATI x1900 crossfire master card so I could go crossfire. The price now is pretty good but I'm not sure it's worth it. Should I just do it? If so the main thing I'm worried about is the dongle cable, when it loops from card to card what is the depth of the loop and is there any play in the cable as the back of my pc is only 100mm (4") from my desk.

Yeah , i would buy a send crossfire master card if the price was right. Crossfire now is in performance is better than sli.

http://firingsquad.com/hardware/ati_rad...x1900_crossfire_performance/page12.asp >> these are old benchmark and things have changed since then but it gives a very good idea of where crossfire strenght is when you turn up the AA : )

FEAR 1024x768x32 Direct3D
Geforce 7800GTX 512MB SLI AA 8x = 59FPS
ATI X1900XTX Crossfire Supper AA 14x = 76FPS

FEAR 1600x1200x32 Direct3D
Geforce 7800GTX 512MB AA 8x = 30
ATI X1900XTX Crossfire AA 14x = 44FPS

Quake 4 1024x768x32 Open GL
Geforce 7800GTX 512MB AA 16x = 70.6FPS
Geforce 7800GTX 512MB AA 8x = 89.1FPS
ATI X1900XTX Crossfire AA 14x = 90.2

Quake 4 1600x1200x32 Open GL
Geforce 7800GTX 512MB AA 16x = 35FPS
Geforce 7800GTX 512MB AA 8x = 57.2FPS
ATI X1900XTX Crossfire AA 14x = 66.7FPS

So how am I running FEAR on max at 1280x1024 getting 32FPS with my setup, when two cards, each costing 3x mine (so... 6x as much as mine), get only about 2x my score?

Your data doesn't show that crossfire is better than SLI. It shows that X1900XTX is faster than 7800GTX. I think most people are aware of that. Most people would've put up the 7900GTX SLI benchmarks instead of 7800GTX, though.

you goon , thoes are SLI vs Crossfire benchmark... if an single card could get thoes frame rate that then i would be amazed :~ err its also the 7800GTX 512MB model

Only reason SLI is better option is HEAT , POWER CONSUMPTION , NO DONGLE and Nosie on stock cooler of X1800XT +.

Before crossfire had driver and motherboard issues but they have been fixed.
