Should I Go?

So a girl I went to High School with's brother committed suicide this week. She and I weren't best friends or anything, just in the same circle of friends. I pretty much lost communication with her after we graduated high school which was over 5 years ago. Since then she's gotten herself into a bunch of cocaine, marijuana, and other drugs which I basically want no part of. I didn't know her brother at all. Should I go to the wake today?

Yeah because while it was brief, I talked to her a few weeks ago. (I know you didnt know that and I didn't include it in the OP)

I said no and the reasons already given say it pretty much all. However, a wake isn't something a person needs to be invited to.

The only person that can really answer this question is you, not ATOT. Answer yourself these three questions: Do you need final closure with the deceased? Would anybody in grievance wish to see you there? Is there any way possible I would regret not attending?

If you feel you should go pay your respects to the brother, or comfort the girl, then do it. How other people choose to drown their sorrows at the wake shouldn't affect that.

She got into that stuff before her brother died.

I went, just because at one point we WERE good friends. It all went good. Sad funeral since the brother was only 17.
