Should I keep GTX 460?

I am wondering if I should keep the 2 Palit GTX 460 1gb (I have them in SLI)

I cannot do a signature yet (< less than 25 post) and my system specs are:


AMD Phenom II 955 x4
Gigabyte 890gpa-ud3h
8gb OCZ DDR 3 Ram
(2x) Crucial 64gb c300 SSD
1tb Samsung F3
(2x) Palit GTX 460 1gb (in SLI)
850 watt Kingwin PSU
(3x) Samsung 23" 2333t Displays

I did the SLI hack on the Gigabyte 890 (amd) board and it seems to work okay I guess. Sometimes I get the blank screen issue where I have to reboot. (This happens mostly at random, and maybe 5 times so far in a game such as FSX, COD black ops, Mafia 2) ..

I am disappointed in the 2d surround mode. Every game that I play, and it does not matter what resolution I set, games seem so zoomed in and stretched when in SLI span mode.

For instance, FSX, when in span mode, I can hardly see the cockpit. Zooming out does not help, etc.. I even tried setting a new FOV and nothing seems to help. I tried editing the config file and set it for widescreen and it makes the side displays look "bent" ..


I just purchased "DCS A-10", and basically the same thing. On the left and right monitors, the image looks like it's in a wide lens mode.

COD Black ops, the image seems stretched and vertically shrunk <??> lol

Is AMD Eyefinitey any different or does it do the same? Am I losing any performance by using the patch hack for AMD chipsets in SLI mode? I guess I expected a different experience with the 2d surround, and thought the extra displays would have not have this "fish eye" appearance and didnt expect the games to be a super zoom mode.


Should I try going the AMD Crossfire route and get two cards comparable to the 460 ? I paid 180.00 a piece for the cards and I have not yet sent in the $30 in rebate per card yet.

I forgot to add,

Sometimes during Windows 7 startup, I will get an error message that the Nvidia driver had to restart. The screens will blank out (sometimes freezing the system and sometimes clearing itself up).

Gaming on more than one monitor is always like that. It works or its crap. Most games don't take advantage of 2+ monitors period.

The cards are fine, i would suspect its a driver/game issue.

The Geforce 460 1GB has given a lot of headaches to many people - including me. I have mine since September and it has given me numerous problems - basically tottaly random freezes that happen like once a month or a week (and the card is running on a 850W Corsair AX850 PSU...). After some research on the net, i found that hundreds of people have problems with the card and Nvidia has done nothing to address its issues. Personally, i RMA'd my card and they sent it back, saying that there is nothing wrong with it. But im afraid ill get into the same problems again. I plan to get an ATI 9850 the soonest possible and get over with it.

Thanks for the reply guys..

I am assuming the 2d surround and AMD's eyefinitey are the same basically, when spanning across three displays, the image will be stretched..

When I am playing in Flight Sim X, or DCS A10 , the images on the left and right monitor are slanted in some way and stretched..

Since I paid about $320 for the two cards (not including mail in rebates),
should I just take them back and get a 6950 or two 6850s ?
