Hey guys. Just ordered a refurbed 15in MBP with retina for $1600 to replace my 2007 santa rosa based 15in MBP. Do you guys think I should keep it? I anticipate a new one to come out in WWDC w/ Haswell...I haven't really been keeping up but I'm guessing it'll have somewhat better battery life and a nvidia 750m. Any suggestions??

Also, other than being faster what other benefits do I get from going from my old MBP to a current gen one? I think I get Power Nap, better performance, and more keypad gestures right? Anything else?

Unless you need it right now I'd wait. Haswell looks like it's going be a big improvement, particularly in the graphics side that will really benefit the retina notebooks.

Definitely cancel it, worst case scenario, you can order the exact same thing for a couple of hundred less in a few days.

You think the 15 retina will go even lower than 1600??

I highly doubt the price of the updated MacBooks will drop, but their spec's will definitely improve. Better graphics, and longer battery life is what were all anticipating.

9to5Mac: Leaked SKUs likely point to MacBook refresh at WWDC as inventory tightens

According to a set of leaked part codes for upcoming Apple products, Apple will likely debut a refresh to at least one of its MacBook lines at the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference. Apple will kickoff WWDC 2013 with a keynote address on Monday, June 10th. Last year, Apple introduced new Macs at the WWDC 2012 keynote, so it seems likely that the impending MacBook refresh will occur at this year’s keynote rather than during another time over the course of the week.

The first series of codes that we have received are:

MD711LL/A — Better — USA
MD712LL/A — Best – USA
MD760LL/A — Better – USA
MD761LL/A — Best – USA

These SKUs likely belong to an Apple notebook that comes in two screen sizes. Each screen size will come in two configurations that will be diversified by internal specifications like processor speeds, RAM, and storage space. Currently, Apple sells two notebook lines that fit a refresh with these SKUs: both the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with Retina display. The MacBook Air comes in two 11-inch configurations and two 13-inch models while the MacBook Pro with Retina display comes in two 13-inch models and two 15-inch configurations.

---

Sources have also provided another set of Apple product SKUs, but we are not certain what these part codes belong to:

ME177LL/A — Better — USA
ME182LL/A — Best — USA
ME918LL/A — Good — USA

To be quite honest, I would simply return it and wait for Haswell. Haswell seems like its where you want to be with the Retina MacBook Pro Line. Haswell is what Apple really wanted to put in this notebook in the first place but Intel just couldn't get it done in time. I have a Early 2013 2.7 Quad i7,16RAM, 512 SSD (SanDisk), and I am more than happy with it honestly. Haswell isn't going to bump clock speed all that much but it does really focus on the integrated GPU. In anands review, he mentions that it does not come as close as Intel had hoped to the GT 650M, but its still a tangible improvement thats worth the money and wait. I am going to keep my retina because I don't feel that Haswell will benefit me all that much more to warrant the hassle of selling and buying again but who knows. Maybe Apple has implemented some sweet tweaks in OSX 10.9 that will increase battery life and Open GL to warrant the need to upgrade but honestly I just don't see it. Apple cares more about iOS than OSX, simple. Just my 2 cents.

Hey guys. Thanks for the responses but you guys know I'm referring to the 15in model not the 13in right. In which case, will have a discreet model no matter what. I know haswell might have a bit better cpu performance (irrelevant to me) and better battery life/maybe 10% better gaming performance but I'm not sure that's worth 600+tax. Am I missing something here?

I agree. 802.11 AC should definitely be in the Haswell model. Earlier this year there was reports that Apple signed on with Broadcom to put the AC chipsets in the upcoming notebook line so makes sense. This is only true though if you have a AC router as well.

The rMBP starts at $2799. If you paid $1600 you already got a great deal. If you think the Haswell refresh is going to be anywhere close to that price, I feel sorry for how naive you are. I say you keep it. It is an incremental upgrade and probably not even noticeable in real world practice.

The 15" rMBP starts at $2199, not $2799.
