Should I lie about smoking pot?

The question asks if I've done any drugs in the past 7 years or since I was 16. The last time I smoked was about 13 months ago. So, for Secret security clearance, do they do just a urine test, or something that goes back a lot longer, like a hair folicle test?

I got security clearance to work on a security system for a large shipping port and I didn't lie They didn't seem to care.

I wouldn't be asking these sort of questions on a public forum. PS: Truth is what you can prove... look up the average hair growth rate. In any case, I would be VERY surprised if they do the hair test.

Hrmmm, from what I've heard, you can usually slide through with saying you've smoked weed (at least, according to my recently retired mother, who has one), anything other than weed, probably not.

You've been exposed to a contact high. Yup, a contact high. I have no idea, but as far as a military scholarship for college my friend came clean and said hes tried it a few times. Now hes in flight school 5 years later and on his way to getting his "wings" (I guess thats what they call pilots license).

Tell the truth, but say it was somewhere between 2-5 times (pick one), and be consistent. Just having used it won't get you denied a Secret clearance.

Don't lie, it's not worth it for something so petty. They are looking for what you do presently, not what you've done or experimented with. Just state you've done it x years ago and I have not touched illegal substances since then.

If you lie, and they find out about it, you will get your clearance revoked. Then you lose your job (I'm assuming your job depends on your clearance).

You'd get away with it for secret, but if you ever (in your entire life) decide to get a top secret you will be fucked. The first thing they ask on the polygraph is have you EVER lied on your SF-86.

Tell the truth and have a chance at still getting it, or lie and have no chance.... I would go with tell the truth, or even stretch the truth as others have said.

And if you manage to not get away with it, it's a crime to lie on it.

I'll just tell you this, you will have a tough time gaining your clearance if you are caught lying. Make up your mind from there. Oh, and if your name matches the one in your profile, I'd probably not lie at this point.
