I'd like to play this again. Does anyone know where they can be bought now?

If you want Fallout 3 to disappoint you, then play Fallout 1 or 2. If you do not want Fallout 3 to disappoint you, then don't play Fallout 1 or 2.
Long story short I think Bethesda's version will be a shallow far cry of what Fallout 1 and 2 brought to the table.

DO NOT PLAY THEM. They might have been something 15 years ago but it's low rez crap now. Sure I have memorys of games back then that I miss but have you ever tried going back and playing them? It's much worse if it's a game that you haven't played. These fallout games are primitive as pong (not exaggerating much).

I disagree. Gameplay is king, not graphics. While a graphical remake would be nice, I've played FO I and II at least eight times since I bought them four years ago. Even after all this time, I'm still discovering (or hearing) about different ways to play the game. One of the coolest tips I've picked up is for an assassination mission, you plant some dynamite on a kid and ask him to go to his father. *Boom* Target's dead and you don't have to worry about angry guardsmen

It seems that these two games are always on people's "favorite games" list and I've heard lots of appraisal for it's storyline, atmosphere, and dark humor. With Fallout 3 coming out later this year, would you guys recommend playing this, rather dated, game to experience the games themselves and to get acquainted with the Fallout background/history in anticipation for Fallout 3?
Or is this game too old and dated to get into? I remember hearing that there are some recent mods/patches out for the game, would anyone know of a resolution mod, much like the one for the BGs and Planescape? Getting a copy wouldn't be that difficult, the Fallout collection is at Gogamer for 20 bucks.
That's it, I'm getting out me banstickOriginally posted by: Northern Lawn

Might want to re-read what I wrote. I was extolling the gameplay of Fallout 1 and 2, not damning it.

Thank you everyone for your input, I did end up purchasing the game and I've been playing FO1 pretty much all day since I got it this morning . It took a while to get accustomed to the rather "archaic" yet rather intricate gameplay than most modern games. Once I got used to it however, I was immediately drawn into the game and story, I love it
I do however have a few questions (might contain spoiler!!!):
1. Can someone explain the armor class and threshold? The manual doesn't really go into much detail about either.
2. I happened to stumble upon a huge cache of weapons and items in the Old Town of the Hub... There are two footlockers that are in the northern part of the map, right above the guns dealer in that area. These two footlockers seem oddly placed because you gain access to, I'm sure, some very expensive equipment you couldn't normally have access to right off the bat (super sledge, sniper rifle, combat armor, etc.) .. I did patched FO1 with the latest official patch and the resolution patch so I don't know if these have anything to do with it. Since I am using the resolution patch, I can see parts of the map that extend way beyond what would normally be seen if the patch wasn't applied, which is where I think the footlockers are placed. Anyone have any clue as to WTF these are there?
3. Any UI mods? Going through inventory is almost equivalent to Mass Effect's inventory screen

Given the open nature of the game, you can end up with some weird equipment early on as I recall. You'll find out though that the sniper rifle and combat armor are kind of midrange I think. So it doesn't seem too odd to me. And by the way, with the sniper rifle, you can aim at specific areas of the body. Sooooo much fun.

I loved all of the Easter eggs. Or specializing in unarmed so that I could knock people down and land crits on their head. I finished 1 and 2, but never completed Tactics. There was one mission that I just could not finish without losing a man. One of my men critically failed a disarm and blew up the whole minefield.
