I think it's a bad idea. It just gives people an excuse to sleep less at night. If you can't get enough sleep at night, you should see a doctor.

if someone's unable to function on minimal amounts of sleep, and is too stupid to take responsibility for themselves by getting a decent night's rest, they deserve to get fired.

Your whining's not going to get you far in the "grown-up" world.

But then again, you're a teenager. Hopefully, you'll grow out of it soon.

It's too bad so many idiots have reached adulthood. I blame product warning labels and the welfare system. Have you people putting him down even read any of the research findings? Or is reading "2 hrd 4 u"? Jesus christ!

psh i don't care about growing up! too many 13-15 year olds are "growing up" and banging instead of going outside and playing ball.

The thing is that short naps really aren't very helpful. You need to sleep for at least 1.5 hours, and move up in 1.5 hour increments (more or less) to really be good to your body. Nap time isn't a bad idea, but I don't think there would be enough time to devote to sleep to make it worth the investment.

Also, if you are thinking about setting up cots, there is a hygene issue. You would need to change the sheets after people used the beds.

LOL, yeah. That's all grown-ups do all day and night long too. They bang. And no, not in the same way that William Hung bangs.

Grown-ups (for the most part) have these things called jobs where when they hire you, they usually tell you when to work. See, they won't tell you when to go to bed though. That's where it gets tricky. You have to figure it out for yourself. And if you can't figure it out, it usually means no more money from them to take care of yourself and your family.

You need REM sleep, which you can slip into fairly quickly if your body senses the need. It can even be trained.

Adults' bodies also don't need the amount of sleep that kids' bodies do. Which you would know. If only you could f*cking read :disgust:

Well Gurck, you could always approach your junior high school principal and propose 'nap time' there also.

Wow, just... wow. Lacking an actual argument you resort to an ad-hominem attack the likes of which I haven't heard since grade school. If you're being honest about being older than 18 and holding a fulltime job (which I highly doubt), what is it? Do you make minimum wage? I'm deeply saddened rather than angry.

You still haven't commented on how your argument had already been refuted. Which you'd know, had you read the thread

I went through three years of high school and usually got between 6 and 7.5 hours of sleep, in addition to working 20 hours a week and taking honors classes every quarter. If you keep having problems missing class, that's your problem, not the school's. It is indeed possible to keep a consistent and workable academic, work, and social schedule, and everyone I knew in high school did it.

The ballpark figure is eight hours. But the more important question is: Do you wake up feeling refreshed and full of energy or not? There are some people who only seem to feel refreshed after 6½ hours of sleep, where others need 9 hours.

<ka-SNIP!>

What is it that prevents you from getting 6½ to 9 hours of sleep a night? Once upon an ancient time, my high school let out BEFORE 2pm - which gave us plenty of time to do what needed to be done before sleep.. including an after-school job.

Yes, I played a TON of computer games until the wee hours of the morning. But that was my CHOICE. Because I chose to stay awake rather than get the sleep my body needed, I had absolutely no right to whine about not getting enough sleep the next day... and no right to be indignant when I got in trouble for falling asleep during U.S. History. Lack of sleep was (and is) entirely my own fault because it was (and is) of my own choosing.

If you've got so much going on in your life that you truly believe you do not have enough time to sleep... then it's time to prioritize. To do that, you must ask yourself: what do you want more, sleep, or other stuff? If sleep is important enough for you, then you'll sleep. Why should school be asked to spend valuable teaching time to allow you to do something you will not prioritize on your own? Call me old-fashioned, but school is for learning... not for catching up on sleep.

I am a senior in college and scheduled all of my classes for much later in the day so I can sleep as long as I want. I usually sleep until noon so the moral of the story is go to college and sleep late whenever you want

That's you, Orsorum. People vary. It's also only your own opinion whether you had problems with it or not, as things often affect us in ways we're not aware of.

Gurck, the point is in my argument that it is up to each of us to know when we should go to bed so that we can function properly the next day. Yes, I've read the entire thread and I agree that children need more sleep than adults. I'm not disputing that.

But, a high school student should be responsible enough (most of the time) to know that they need to go to bed at a decent hour if they're going to be worth anything the next day. If they don't get enough sleep, well that's the weekends are for. The OP was talking about high school students and not elementary school students.

While high school students aren't yet adults, they're not 8-year-olds either. Wanting or even expecting a 'nap-time' in high school is utterly ridiculous and will teach them nothing about how to allocate their time properly while in adulthood.

Hormones; specificially, what time in the evening melatonin is released in relation to what time one must wake up for their morning obligations. Again, reading is a good thing. Try it some time.

Can someone help me out here? Is it hypocrisy that this boy is talking about a "lacking of actual argument" from someone who he thens question age, job, and job quality?

Just because you canonized what you believe, doesn't mean it's unrefutable.

Here's an example:

You're a panty-waste. Refute that.

Such as? I assure you the people I hung out with had their own problems, including OCD, bi-polar, depression, and various drug abuses. None of them had problems missing class (except for the drug addict, but he was homeless for something like a year anyways).

I think you're making excuses for your own laziness. Hormones suck, trust me, I went through it just the same as you did. But there's no reason why you can't adjust your sleep schedule to fit your needs and the high school time schedule.

damn stupids, just go earlier to bed! If you can't handle high school with the amount of sleep you get, you shouldn't be in high school anyway.

I have no idea how kids survived before people started doing studies on how bad they have it. Kids don't get enough sleep have low self esteem are too fat need more drugs to control. If the little maggots just went to bed on time ate a good balanced meals at home and were disciplined properly I?d bet you half of these so called problems would go away.
