Give up your right and responsibility to vote in return for maybe getting out of jury duty (I've been registered for something like 20 years, and once I was notified I was chosen and told to call a number at the courthouse. Well, I called and a recording told me not to even bother to show up. I.e., after 20 yrs I've still never been called to serve).

You should be smacked with a trout again

Fern.

Whether you decide to vote or not, please let us know. If you choose not to register/vote then we will know to tell you to STFU if you complain about anything to do with politics/government/law.

Register or stop posting. If you don't have an opinion when it counts , you have no voice when it doesn't.

As I understand you don't have to vote or register and still voice your opinion. After all it's your first amendments right....

Jury duty and Voting was implement by our founding father for a reason... I suggest look into it why.

Between Jury Duty is not so bad just waiting part for 8hrs(in NYC).. If you do get selected for case that's when the fun start.... I serve 2 times and I got selected this year for lawsuit. hehe.

To the people that feel if you don't vote you don't get to complain - we all have the freedom of speech regardless of voting. I have the right to say what I will without voting. Voting is a choice, that can actually be taken away. The freedom of speech is guaranteed and unable to be taken, even if the freedom to vote is taken away.

This is a country based on certain freedoms, and for you to say we cannot voice those if we don't vote is an attempt to take those freedoms away.

But because I vote, I can get that freedom taken away from you.

Register and suffer the bane of jury duty... or... accept that Obama wins this state with an electrified Dem, local boy electorate that will also cause every other Dem candidate to ride that wave to office and sit back, have a beer and let the system do its thing and keep myself off the radar?

Your gonna miss the free ride on the jesus bus!

So? McCain's just dead man walking. Might as well abandon the sinking GOP ship and cast a protest vote. The GOP has abandon it's principles (where's my reduced spending and smaller gov't?) and deserves to be abandon by voters as a result.

Gosh darnit we need change. This country needs mavericks on the supreme court. For years we've had those Washington elitists using their ivory tower educations deciding law for us. We need to turn the SC over to Joe and Jane Sixpack!

Why would he vote 3rd party in protest if he likes Palin? Unless I'm missing something the issue isn't the GOP or 2 party system. It's whether he should waste his time voting for McCain/Palin when his state will go the other way regardless.

i think you're already too late to register for this election

unlike most civilized countries in the world, we like to make it difficult for our citizens to vote. most other countries make it easy, leave a paper trail, AND their governments automatically register them when they turn voting age

I've never understood this "we want to encourage people to vote" philosophy. Why? Just based on personal experience, apathetic citizens are usually uninformed citizens, so how's getting more of them to vote a good thing? You really want more of the same kind of people who believe Obama's a radical Muslim to be casting a vote and deciding the fate of the nation? Voting should be more difficult, not less.

I don't even think you should be posting in P&N if you aren't registered to vote.

Unfortunately it's like making babies. Any retard with a pecker (or vajayjay) can get in here

He never said he wasn't going to vote for that reason. He was asking for opinions, He was debating pros and cons.

Your posts are consistently the stupidest, most moronic posts on these boards. You critisize people just to feel better about your loser self. You are a waste of key strokes.

because it encourages more knowledge about what you're voting for. people who're obligated to vote make it worth their time to figure out wtf they are gonna vote for. look at italy, for instance.

basically, it's a good way to make people realize that if you're not going to take part of something that people died in battle to allow for you to do for the nation, then you shouldn't be privileged enough to live in that nation at all.

That's pretty horrid reasoning and is not the foundation of a true democracy. What you deem apathetic or misinformed can be very different from what the reality is. For example, the fact that you think Democrats and Republicans are the same and that a 3rd party vote would be a better vote. To me, that's uninformed hogwash. Making it harder to vote would make it harder across the board, meaning you'd be getting fewer informed people voting as well as fewer constituents per congressman.

Bottom line, your premise is absurd.

I've always felt if you are able to vote and don't, then who the hell are you to voice criticism regarding politics, politicians, policies, etc.

And people,(like me), who DO vote, don't count in the political arena! In my 35+ years of voting for, less taxes, less government, fiscal responsibility, more accountability, and the keeping of campaigning promises, I never got any of it. Seems the powers that be, always know better. In a few weeks, once again the carrot will be held under my nose, and once again I will chase it, for it is my *duty*.
Often, I find myself agreeing with the statements made in this link, NSFW!!!

You've realized the sad truth. The state never has your best intentions in mind. Never. Its an orgy of self interest from the politicians and you're not a part of it.

Most people who register after not participating are given an agenda and fed a line of BS by the people who register them.
That is the tool they use to get them to register in the first place.
That is also the extent of education in regards to politics they pursue.
Being registered is hardly an obligation to vote , the percentages clearly show this.
In my experience , the get out the vote program is predominately Democrats , especially on campuses and for the young people in the neighborhoods.
