Should I replace my mobo?

Hey Gang,

I currently have a ASUS P8P67 and a 2500k processor. I'm pretty sure my processor is a complete dog as it doesn't OC very well at all. I've tried the Clunk OC guide, the OC guide posted on some of these forums from the ASUS rep, etc. Anything over 4.1, or 4.2 starts getting real flaky (boots fine but can't pass any stress tests for more than 45-55 mins).

Also, it seems to require more vcore than any guide I can find including those mentioned. I think i just have a turd.

So I'm seriously debating picking up another Proc and giving it another go. My question to you guys is this:

Will I get any OC benefit by also upgrading the mobo to a PRO or Deluxe? I'd prefer not to spend any more cash on the system as I'm salty about it as it is, however since I have to take the whole thing apart I might as well ask the question.

Does the PRO or Deluxe OC significantly better than the standard board? I don't care about the integrated NIC upgrades or SLI (though I suppose maybe in the future it'd be nice but right now I'm running a EVGA GTX 570 OC). I already have a dedicated PCiE Intel Nic ....

Thanks !

IF you check the stats, your framerates may only rise 5-7% with most overclocks. I have to lower my ram speed first to get a stable overclock. I wouldn't change boards or cpus just for this.

SB has to be the easiest proc to clock yet!....Have you adjusted the turbo power levels short and long?
What voltage are you using, you dont list any OC details.

My old proc would hold a 4.5 OC on roughly 1.345 v worth of VCore. However, in Prime95 it would reliably bluescreen and boot after around 40 mins.

So, I decided that I would just swap the proc as I did not believe the board to be at fault.

New proc is like night and day.

I can hold a 4.5 OC at 1.27v worth of VCore for at least 3 hours now (didn't go any longer than that). My system bluescreened and booted around 1.5 hours of 1.26v, so I nudged up my vCore and set my VRM frequency to 350 (as I noticed my VCore had a bit of movement to it, I suspected a little dip at some point caused me to go belly up. My rationale was give it a little more juice and make the mobo a little more responsive to maintaining it).

All other settings on MOBO were default w/ the exception of RAM - I'm still running my RAM at 1333, though to be honest from what I read I probably will see little value in moving it up to its rated 1600. I just might leave well enough alone.

i know the evo mobo has that performance mode you can click and it will take the 2600k right to 4.4ghzs i know you have the 2500k but perhaps try those modes, for me i would be happy just with 4.4ghzs i was on sandy for a short time till a craptastic thermaltake tr2x 750 watt psu shorted out my system it sucked majorly ironically happened right when the recall happened but heck you think you have it bad im using this x58-e pro motherboard i cant get jack from this one,not even a 3.3ghzs on this 950,its a flakey mobo
