Should i return my hercules GTXP and go sblive plat 5.1?

after tring to stick up for this card here (sorry ocn) I think I am about to return this card. There is no volume control for digital out, it has to be done external, which makes my internet keyboard pro useless. all the software volume control is analog aimed..and i have a cs dtt2500, and it needs sdif out for the 5 speakers to make noise. so no dice here. it sounds awesome, the mp3s and all, but its just giving up too much.

Since viahardware seems to be saying most sblive issues are gonna be settles, i am probobly tomorrow gonna return it and trade up (down?) to the sblive platinum 5.1 and hope for the best. at least i get my volume control and not have to hear everything full blast cuz im too lazy to go turn the knob. plus i get a cool remote.

divx started giving me probs, but i dunno if its the card or the smp setup. only WMP7 would play soudn right, and other progs statled garbling the sound. ugh.

Am I doing the right thing? since i had a creative sound system, i should aim for creative card?? am i counting my luck depending on VIA to come thru with all the fixes?? well...crossing my fingers and here goes nothing.

I have to have CS playable...need to frag, havent fragged in days...arg!

Maybe you should try the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz or the Philips AcousticEdge if you haven't already.

Soundblaster and SMP don't seem to mix well (I've read)
Phillips Accoustic Edge and SMP don't mix well together (I learned)
Santa Cruz and SMP seem pretty good so far (2 weeks and running)

Are you sure about that? I didn't think the SBLive! had digital volume control either...

If you think the SBLive! Platinum will suit your needs better then go for it. It's not a bad card, but IMO there are better alternatives. And the GTXP is one of them. But if you aren't happy with it there's no reason you should avoid the live.

I had some weird problems with an SMP rig and my sound card too. Audio on AV sequences would be choppy, the sound would cut in and out. I removed a cpu and it worked fine. I've only tried on one game, and this was on my old dual BX board. I'll try some on my new rig when I get a chance. I was using an SBLive! Platinum (not 5.1) with the BX, just have a plain old PCI128 on my VP6 now. Anyone else running SMP have audio problems?

BBD, my new setup is actually kinda like yerz. I have a GTXP on the way, ordered from amazon... keeper?
