Should I start a dairy?

Dairy is huge and there are many health benefits to calcium and drinking milk but I personally don't drink milk due to being lactose intolerant so I wouldn't want to drink my profits or cause financial ruin by consuming all the food.

Plus when I'm successful, it will be worth tons of money like Hiland dairy or any of the other numerous ones around the world.

On the other hand I could just make my own beef jerky and sell it locally and make a few bucks on the side instead because I like to smoke meat and like beef jerky. What do you guys think?

Don't know what kind of permits you'll need in Kansas, but in CA, starting a brand new dairy is a huge undertaking and costs millions. Permitting alone will cost $100,000 easily with environmental review etc.

Slag's dairy .. your profile says you live in Kansas. Kansas is respected as one of the great lands of BBQ, but, not known for Dairy, likely because there is plenty of sun and good soil for growing wheat, where as Wisconsin has a shorter growing season and often really rocky soil, which means more pasture land rather than crop land... thus, livestock being so common. At least thats my guess as to why Kansas is grain breadbowl land and wisconsin is cheeseland.

The amount of regulations involved probably make it not worth it, and when the TPP passes it will make it even harder as all the foreign dairy that don't have to abide by regulations will now be allowed in the country.
