I do some light gaming, but mainly web design, surfing and office stuff. I have copies of both OSes, and do over clock some.

Has anyone found and problems with overclocking and vista, like software compatibility (Temp monitoring , bench stuff , etc)

Or should i stick it out with XP till vista gets a little better.

You have probably never used it.

Its not that bad. I like it way better than XP. I hate going to work now and having to use XP all day.

Nah, I got Vista Business for free. It was my worst OS experience. Hard drive thrashing after exiting a game and taking long to load, firefox taking 30 seconds to load. I have 2gb of ram.

Vista (Ultimate) works just wonders for me, sure there are some trouble (nvidia drivers suck and illustrator cs2 is a tad slow) but overall it has been peachy.

In your case though, I would stick to XP for a little whle longer.

I put vista on my wifes new laptop and aside from some processor scaling issues it has worked beautifully. She does everything your talkin about besides the light gaming and has had no issues. The interface is pretty and simple and works, everything she is looking for. Basically if its going to be a pain to install vista (ie you all-ready have xp installed, tweaked, and stable) then wait until you have to but if you have to do a clean install either way then go with vista

And how long was it before you gave up?

Sounds like words of ball sucking experience?

Vista is awesome - its a resource hog (800mb sitting there), but if you have the requirements its a great OS...

my apps all load in like 1/2 a second (firefox/ie etc) It really is quite sweet to just click and and its up and loaded - the search feature and new start menu are also super useful.

to the OP, what are your system specs? If you have a high end system i say definitely go vista, if you only have a gig of ram, its probably not worth it.

I put Vista Ultimate on my desktop and did not like it. I couldn't get used to all the clutter and a couple of non-negotiable apps would not work correctly on Vista.

I did however like some of the new graphics, such as the file delete and copy windows, and the "glass" effect looked neat, but in the end the "pretty" stuff loses it's appeal and I just want an OS that works, so I'm sticking to XP and Ubuntu.

I have used Vista. My opinion is that it uses up alot of resources and really doesn't give you anything in return. XP still work damn well if you know how to use it.
