Right now im running:

P4 630 @ 4Ghz 1066FSB
Asus P5LD2
1GB DDRII 533 @ 667

I can sell all that to a friend of mine and get a opteron 144, asus a8n-e, 1gb and hopefully it will reach 2.6+ speed. Is this worth it? I do all kind of stuff with the computer, gaming as well. Will i miss HT?

Dual core is really not a solution to me as it cost way too much. Will a optern 144 @ 2.6Ghz be fine in small multitasking?

nope, your rig is fine. selling and getting new one will cost you money and trouble and will not gain you much.

Although I'd advise anyone to change to AMD... (no just kidding) I wouldn't do it on this one too...

BTW don't know the rest of the HW, but that looks like a nice setup...

definitely not worth it at the moment unless you decide to go to a fast dual core system.

Your rig looks pretty good, in the future I would consider switching to AMD but right now it's not worth it.

I would, Intel totally sucks at gaming

j/k Hell I have a 630 @ stock running with a 256 GTX and couldn't be happier.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Here are the setup i got currently:
P4 630 @ 4Ghz 1066FSB
Asus p5LD2
Kingston DDRII 533 @ 667MHz Cas 5
Connect3d x800GTO @ X850XT
Segate 120GB HDD
DVDRW

Since i could get a opteron 144 locately (they got it in stock), i thought i could just sell all these stuff to my friend and switch to AMD opteron w/o chipping in anything hoping it will hit 2.8+ speed.

I never had a AMD64 before so i don't know how it perform overall. I know it rocks in gaming, but i don't 100% gaming all the time =D. I would love to have dual core and definitely would go x2/opteron 165 but money is a big issue to me as it cost quite a bit more.

Yes, the cpu is air cooled by TT Big Typhoon at 1.4875v. CPU idle around 36 and load 55C.

AMD dualcores currently beats Intel dual cores into dust in all applications ranging from file compression, video editing to gaming.

How much can you sell your P4 rig to your friend?
How much extra you have to put in to compensate for the new components for the AMD system?

If it is not a lot then I might as well do it. Less heat = less power consumption = less power bill.

However your rig currently is indeed powerful enough that you don't really "need" to swap.

You'd be hard pressed to make a machine and overclock it to what you've done already with your present Intel system. I'd stay with this machine until you can't do what you need it to do. It's fine. I would not go through the hassle to buy new parts to try to make a machine as good, I'd only do it if you could make a much better machine, which will be very difficult.
