Should I trust the specifications on fans?

Leaving some flexibility for differences in fin design, shouldn't faster rotation speed (of two similarly sized fans) mean more air movement?? These two fans seem to be identical in design (can't tell much from the pictures, but the difference is definitely not anything radical), yet their difference in performance is pretty large.

Sunon 16CFM @ 3100 RPM
Thermaltake 37CFM @ 2900 RPM

Sunon's fan moves .0052 cfm per rotation while Thermaltake's fan moves .013 cfm per fan rotation. Should I just be convinced that Thermaltake's fans are superior enough to give more than twice the performance?

well, gasp, the Thermaltake fans aren't exactly known for accurate (or non-exaggerrated) ratings.

Well one problem thats a 60mm fan there reading off (model number and specs), but displayed as a 80mm fan.
Thermaltakes specs from experance have have all been wrong, none i've played with has seemed close to there claimed spec. Also note there very very short lifespan.

You can trust the specs from big manufactures like, Nidec, AddA, Papst, Delta, YS Tech, Sunon, Panaflo...the small companies or rebadged fans look at em iffy.

Thermaltake is known to infat their product specs.

The db rating from thermaltake is simply all wrong.

It's probably 5+db higher than what they published.

also add enermax fans to the list of trust. They dont lie about their dba, but they (very) slighlty exaggerate the cfm. the one i bought (Enermax Blue 92mm Fan W/Speed Control) only moves 5 - 8% less than what they state.

I have 3 of those running in my case right now. They seem to be pushing a reasonable amount of air and they are fairly quiet, but nothing revolutionary. I don't own many fans so I can't really tell you if they are good or bad relative to the competition.
