Should I upgrade from GTX 770 for 2560x1440 ?

Currently I run Intel I5-2500K, 8GB RAM, and eVGA GTX 770 4 GB. I plat at 2560x1440. Games played: Witcher 3, Dragon Age Inquistion, Assassins Creed Syndicate, Call of Duty Black OPS 3, BF 4, BF Hardline
I can keep most of the setting close to mid/high settings and the games perform well, I only see slowdowns during cut scenes in Syndicate and Black Ops 3. Also, while I finished Witcher 3 at 2560 and high/ultra settings, there were times and the game felt slightly sluggish.
I am wondering if it makes sense to get GTX 970? What about going for GTX 770 SLI? (I specifically built my system back in '11 with the purpose of going SLI, but never have).

the 770 4gb is a good candidate for SLI, see if you can find one of those

I don't think I would be happy with a single 970 @ 1440p, I run one at 1080p and it is great at that resolution but the newest games at ultra settings are really starting to hit it hard

I think a 770 4gb SLI setup would have the raw power better suited to 1440p that being said some new games are having SLI issues (Arkham Knight, Just Cause 3 for example) so for me personally I have decided I will always stick to single card setups but if you can get SLI working it has great bang for buck especially with the 4gb cards you have plenty of VRAM to work with

970 for 1080

390/980 for 1440p

With min 16GB DDR3 2133+ RAM

And upgrade to 5820/6700k/Cannonlake/BW-E as soon as you can. Or at least to a 3770k/2700k.

And I'd any day take a single 970 over 960 4GB SLI or 770 4GB SLI.

SLI is problematic in a number of titles, even high profile ones. Max out single-GPU perf before going multi-GPU.

Sell the 770 and buy a 980 or better. Probably can get one for ~$350ish used.

eh, i would go for SLI .. because cheaper, and card loses less money over time (it already passed the biggest value drop).
not guaranteed 100% on every title, but miles ahead of what it was a few years ago.

unless the game is optimized for SLI, SLI just sucks period.

The one thing that pisses me off is when nvidia comes out with new drives, and they completely forget to bring out the SLI profile and your forced to use AF2, cuz this is where you see bad micro shutters.

When the game is properly profiled for SLI, thats where things get much better.

But if i had a choice again, i probably would of gotten a single Titan, instead of 2 x 980's and called it a day.

Infact the next gen video cards, i intend to do exactly that... go with the single most powerful GPU i can possible afford / that is out, and ditch going tandem.

Thank you for the information. Does NVIDIA's website have information on which games are optimized / have SLI profiles?
I am leaning towards a new card, unless I can find a really cheap 970.

most of the time it will be on driver notes.
If the game has been out for a while... several months, most likely a SLI profile was made for it.

However and I say however, lately nvidia has been REALLY LAZY with SLI.

My solid advice is get a 970 GTX, dont even look back and call it a day.
Or better yet, save up a bit more, wait til xmas, and grab a 980.

I never did respect nvidia and the whole 4GB 970GTX fiasco they pulled. The 970 is a 3.5Gig card not a 4GB card!

However the 980 GTX's are true 4GB.
