Should I upgrade my video card?

I currently have a 9600xt card and would like to know how big the difference would be if i went to something like x800 or something. I like playing games like far cry and need for speed underground with 2.8ghz hyperthreading and 1gig of ram. Need for speed underground jerks but far cry is not that bad.

I just upgraded from a 9800XT to a X800 and it's at least 40% faster, plus the graphics are a little better.

besides in gaming is there any other programs that will benefit from the upgrade. How much faster would it make in games for me going from a 9600xt card to the x800 card? Is it worth the upgrade? Does it make a bigger difference than going from a 2.8ghz to 3.2ghz in gaming?

yes going form 2.8-3.2 would be almost unnoticable
YOU WILL NOTICE going from a 9600XT to a X800

you will get faster frame rates, the ability to run games at a higher resolution at high frame rates, you can use AA,AF without a huge preformance loss
not much else other then games will benefit from a new vid card, except it might give you some higher monitor resolutions

*shakes 8ball* sources say no. I'm assuming you meant 9800 pro? because a 9600xt to 9800 regular would be pointless. I just upgraded from a 9700 pro to a 6800gt and it makes a HUGE difference.

I wouldn't upgrade unless you are a framerate/game junkie. I have a 9600XT and it suits me okay. My processor is slow though.

I dunno. I went from a Ti4600 (~= 9600XT) to a 9800Pro, and it seemed like a pretty big jump in performance, *especially* AA/AF performance (which kills the GF4 but works well on the 9800Pro). Obviously going to a 6800GT or X800Pro would be a HUGE step up from a 9600XT.

How much better than a 9600 will it be? Or a GF4-ti4200?

i think it only has 8 pipes, i dont think that its worth the upgrade for 300+ dollars.

I would go with a 6800GT if you are really upgrading. You will defietely notice the difference but if you are not a haeavy gamer a 9600XT would be fine

Depends on your expectations--if you need high resolutions and very high framerates, get a 6800 GT. If not, stick with the 9600XT, or wait for 6600 GT if you're somewhere in between.

I usually wait until the price drops to the $150 range. I am running the 9600XT now.
