Should I Upgrade my Video Card?

I'm currently on an MSI G3Ti200 Pro-VT128 (GeForce3 Ti200 with 128 MB DDR VIVO), and I'm beginning to notice slowdown in lots of the games I play ... is it actually time for me to upgrade? With the GF4 Ti line of card dropping in price, would it be a good idea to go for a Ti4400 or something of that sort? (PS: ATi, stay away from me )

 

I say if the games you play the most are slow then yes. You cant get the best card out now but the gf4200's and 4600's are pretty good from what i see on my buddies machine.

It depends what processor are you running..

I upgraded my p3 1gig board (512 of pc 133), from a geforce 2 ultra to a gforce 4 Ti 4600, and saw almost no improvement in Frame rate (tested with JK2). When playing music using winamp, and having it display the nice precreated video themes, I noticed that my processor would shoot up too 100% usage.. so I think as soon as I get my new Processor MB, and memory (going to a p4 with DDR 400) that I will see the FR improvement in JK2, and the processor usage on my system when running the winamp video, will be drasticly reduced... Basicly it comes down to the fact that the DDR memory on my TI 4600 is faster than my Processors FSB and I think it's bottlenecking there... but I could be wrong.

Since you have a good processor I'd suggest the Ti 4200 as well and overclock it. Usually you can get 4400 speeds out of them. I have an Asus 128MB and it runs at 310/600 with no artifacts. The Deluxe Asus has VIVO as well as 3d glasses, and according to their website it is the bigger PCB like the 4400 and 4600 with the BGA RAM. I'd like to see one for myself to verify that but still, my non deluxe overclocks well with Samsung RAM.

And of course get the 128MB card, not the 64.
