Should I upgrade

Should I upgrade OS.
I have an older HP M9040N desktop based on a C2 Q6600, 8 gb memory, Nvidea Geforce 9500 GT video card, running a 32 bit version of vista (which only recognizes 4 gig)
Desktop still performs OK, thinking of installing windows 10 to help it out.
Is this a foolish move.

Just acquired an ACER 710 desktop running an I7-6700K CPU with 2 24" monitors. Looking to build another desktop !7-6700K with 4 24" monitors. So having an up to date desktop is not a need just hate to retire the old system if it is still going strong.

My parents have a system about that age upgraded to Windows 10 a couple months ago. It won't make it any worse. Actually, considering how much Windows Vista lowed to thrash hard drives, it will probably run better. I know I upgraded a computer from Vista to 7 a few weeks ago and it runs Much better on 7.

One thing to watch out for is drivers. For example, I took a quick peek at your specs and Realtek doesn't show a Windows driver for the ALC888s audio chip. That doesn't mean that 10 doesn't have a generic driver that will work with it, just something to watch out for.

Same thing for the Intel G33 Chipset on the motherboard. According to this recent post, no Windows 10 support.

That's... interesting. A bit disappointing. I guess I'm lucky, I upgraded a G41 rig to Win10, and it found drivers for the video. They're not that fast, but they work.

I remember how popular those Gigabyte G31 micro-ATX boards were back in the day, I built a number of rigs for people with that board, with E5200 CPUs. I guess that means that if they want to run Win10, they have to invest in a video card after all this time. Oh well. LOL.
