Should I wait?

I have almost everything I need to go forward. I'm just missing some crucial parts to get it running.

The hard drive is really the last thing I'm waiting on and I wanted to go with the WD Velociraptor http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16822136260
but was thinking of maybe skimping on it and just buying a cheaper, but equally(within reason) good hard drive.

I could buy a hard drive and my OS for the same price of the hd i want above if I find a good one. Will be using Vista Premium 64.

Would waiting for the Velociraptor really mean huge performance gains? Need your advice.

Waiting won't boost your performance at all.
Buy the VelociRaptor now and enjoy. :laugh:

Get the 150GB version if you're worried about cash.

LOL! I haven't even considered the 150gb model. I'll look into that.

See, I have 3 items left to buy. I had 4 as of last night, but I made a quick trip to Fry's to snag me the mobo/processor combo with the Q9550 for $229. So now I need my OS, a DVD drive and the hard drive. Which would cost about $400 if I went the 300gb model route.

I just want a drive for now as I will later add an additional drive for storage. As it is I'm still using an 120gb drive and only use about 40gb.

Cash is somewhat an issue, so that's why I'm wondering if I should wait. I had heard that there were some other, cheaper hd's that worked almost as well as the WD Velociraptor.

You've invested in a fast Q9550. HDs are the slowest component in the chain (other than optical drives).
You're building from the ground up... Why cheap out now? :roll:
Get the 150GB VelociRaptor and simply add storage later as needed. The 150GB gives your OS and apps plenty of speed and space.
