so im in the middle of gathering parts to build a replacement to my 5 year old gaming rig. so far I have
6tb WD black HDD
cooler master h500m case
corsair 750w gold PSU
16gb gskill neo ddr4 3600 RAM

and I plan to get the following
fuma 2 cpu cooler
500gb sabrient rocket pcie 4.0
rtx 3080

next week I want to get a mobo, ideally I would like to get the ASUS x570 hero but $400 for a mobo is getting crazy. alternatively they have the ASUS x570 strix E for $300 which has the features I want and seems to be around the ballpark of most x570 boards so I am currently leaning towards the strix-e. I am used to ASUS and have never used a different motherboard, that's the main reason I am looking at them, plus I think they are great aesthetically. My plan is to buy a ryzen 3600 to tide me over until the 4000 series launches where I will get a 4800 ish CPU and use the 3600 in a mini-itx emulation/ console build later. my question is, would I be better off waiting for an x670 motherboard to pair up the 4000 series with? I am not seeing many improvements over x570 but everything is just speculation at this point. I am worried with x670 being their final iteration of am4 they might go "all out" and I would regret getting the x570. what do you guys recommend? I could wait but in all honesty once the case comes in next week I will probably lose what little patience I have left and just start buying the remaining parts unless something major is coming with x670. If you guys have other boards to recommend, the motherboard would need to have
at least 1 pcie 4.0 m.2
front panel usb c connector
argb header with software that works with coolermaster
as far as overclocking ability, I tend to toy around with it but I dont go crazy, I usually find a setup that wont go above 80C on air which for my current 4790k is around 4.6ghz so I do overclock but not by a whole lot, im more likely to overclock the gpu than the cpu.

Since you are waiting on a few parts to release, hold off on the PSU as well. Unless you are planning to sell your current one for a good price, to help absorb some of the mark up. Prices are still inflated on PSUs and will come down as the human malware subsides and supply chain issues are resolved. For gaming the 3600 is definitely a good placeholder. And I use the Black spinners for most of my game folders, and can not tell a real difference from my SSDs for load times and streaming assets; I am not using a stop watch. DDR4 is priced great right now so would not hesitate to pick that up. And that Fuma 2 seems like a great price performance cooler.

well I just edited my OP to clear up confusion, I already have RAM, PSU (thankfully I bought back in January) HDD and a case. I am set on SSD and cooler as far as what to buy in the next few weeks. I am more curious if waiting for the x670 boards would be worth it or if I should just buy a 570 board now seeing as how some are in stock and who knows what the rest of the year may bring.

Wait.
Wait on everything.
I'm also not a fan on wasting time and effort on "place holders" either so skip the 3600.
Just wait for the 4000 series to release
For a single gpu gaming box with one m2, why would you buy an an year old x570 over a B550? Why do you feel the lanes on the x570 are critical over a B550 and how will it directly impact you usage of this PC as agaming rig?
Would it make more sense to simply wait for the next gen Ryzen and corresponding x670 to actually become available and evaluate then?

Ryzen and RTX3XXX series might not hit retail until October. Right now, supply channels are still limited and pricing is inflated.
I think it would be a mistake to make any moves if your current gaming pc still has life left in it.

What is your current build (Proc and GPU)?

currently i have a 4790k paired with a gtx 1080, so my CPU is fine but my gpu is struggling and the rtx 20 series would bottleneck my cpu so I figured just replace the whole set.

If you could live with it for a few more months and wait for the x670 chipset to come out you might be able to make a better informed choice.
If you have an itchy trigger finger, I think a B550 might make more sense than x570 (depending on the board you get).
As for a Fuma 2, I can vouch for it as a good cooler as long as you're not going nuts with overclocking. I have one paired with a 3900x

No matter what you buy now, its going to be gathering dust until the GPU's and chips come out.
I would much rather deal with a retailer return vs Manufacturer warranty claim with components so keep in mind who long you stuff will be sitting on the shelf.

Where is this "x670" talk coming from? AFAIK, at least for the DDR4 AM4 platform, x570 and B550 are IT.

He's targeting 4000 series as his final build

you make a good point as far as the warranties are concerned, I suppose I can wait for the remaining components. if nothing else it should press the b550 and 3000 series prices down once the 4000 series and 670 release, im just worried about supply issues when the new series hits.

so after a week a news and rumors it seems my dilemma has come again. there is now speculation that x670 will just be a refresh of x570 that allows ryzen 4000 support out of the box and not much else, also rumors are pointing to a late December release for the new 4000 series. Due to weather related reasons I am not willing to wait past October for my new build and if the new CPU's are not out by then I may as well build now. So what is the best board on sale now in your opinion for ryzen 4000? I plan to buy a board and 3600 just to complete my build now then when the 4000 series releases I will upgrade my CPU and the 3600 will go into another project I have so im not out anything by building now, im just forcing my other project along quicker than I had thought. I have been looking at the x570 hero viii, I know its overkill and I dont do much overclocking but the B550 strix-E I would buy is only 70 bucks cheaper and if im already spending over 250 bucks I may as well buy one of the top of the line boards. Having only own asus Im not sure what other boards are good so im open to other recommendations. mainly the board has to be a 550 or 570 chipset since im using a pcie4.0 m.2, also a front panel usb-c header is needed as well as argb ( i think those are standard ). a plus would be a post code readout but that can be omitted if need be. again, im not a heavy overclocker but I will play around with it a bit so I want a bit of headroom for overclocking but its not a primary factor for me. what are your suggestions for a board?
